Mike, I will, perhaps some of the members would like to know a little more about each individual member of the HCOA, I know that Dave and myself are working on some points that may be of interest as to what instruments we were using, tunings on the steel, Dave and myself never did finish up on the incidentals of the history of the Hot Club.
A prime example, on the cover of the cd and original LP shows me playing a double neck pedal Fender 1000, whereas I played all of those cuts with a triple neck Fender Custom.
The back of the original LP has liner notes and no photo. These are all out of sequence,any questions feel free to ask.Many of these points will be in my book,I will answer what I feel is pertinent without "telling the complete story" of how the HCOA was formed. only technical questions will be answered as best as I could
The actual history of when and how will be in the book The Last Fender Guitar!

I used E6th with an E on the outer neck and would lower the third string from b natural to a
b flat, I would do this while Johnny was taking his chorus.The middle neck was an A 9th with a high A on top, the first neck closest to me was an A6th which I would retune to raise the 3rd and 4th strings during the tunes we were playing and Johnny was playing his parts.
Yes I still have the Custom, which I don't use, that same one as I did on the LP, I have two other Customs I use on a regular basis, I very seldom if ever play the 4 neck I dont care for the push button neck selectors. I do have a Fender 1000 never use it but I don't plan on selling it at least not at this time, the Custom I played on the HCOA will be in my final will and left to someone. It is to me something special. Thank you Andy. PS your up awful early California time are you not? I have no secrets, Speedy shared his tunings with me but used pedals on his Bigbsy. just dont ask me "what I was wearing when we recorded the LP. Whenever I need a "Picker-upper" going home from work, I throw in HCOA or The Arthur Godfrey CD in my car CD player and Voila, I am immersed in this unique virtuoso "Steel Without Pedals" music. I am in another world...
I have seen Jody play and I still can't figure out how he makes his Steels sing like they do?? It's really a treat to hear or to see him tear it up!!
When multi-neck "Steels Without Pedals" were made, he had to be in mind.
Live or on recording, Jody uses all these tunings in many songs he happens to be playing, switching from neck to neck!! What a sound!!
