I am having trouble dating pots on my Console Grande. The codes on my pots are IRC 615089 .05Meg B 241. I am assuming they were made 41st week of 52. Pots have not been replaced and all solder joints are original. Pots are stamped along the rims of the pots. Anyone have any familiarity with these pots? |

These are pretty common on old Gibsons. This source gives the general date scheme:
http://www.provide.net/~cfh/pots.html#irc
According to this, 615 is the IRC manufacturer code, 1058 is the IRC part number, .05Meg is the value, and 241 corresponds to the 41st week of 1952 as you deduced. Perhaps the additional letter refers to the pot taper.
My '49 EH-630 Electraharp has IRC pot code 0.5 Meg B 6150566 908. I'm pretty confident about '49, as opposed to '59, because of the early no-number barrel knobs on the guitar, which were used from ca '46-49. |

Harry - I'm working on it this evening, which is why I could respond to the query - I just looked up the info on IRC pots myself. She be clean now, but I still have to set it up. It's coming out nice - thanks for your help at the guitar show.
As I said at the show, my plan is to use this as a strictly non-pedal steel, even though it has pedals. I believe this guitar has the non-pedal tone I've been looking for. That late-40s version of the P-90 is my favorite pickup ever. Rich but clean. |

Well you sure have a show piece there. What a great guitar...looks like new.
I had a good time at the show, and it was great meeting you. When you get down this way give me a shout.
