...since many steel players also play guitar, and some posts are related to guitar topics?
"non-steel guitar"? "Fingered guitar"?

My $.02 gives that the thumbs down; there are already many existing sites for that.

It's a STEEL GUITAR forum. That's what I come for.

Are you a member of the Martin Guitar Forum? If not, check it out. They have a place for Steel however not many use it. It's 99.99% acoustic guitar and many pros use the site as well. A great site. 9,300 members.

I do believe that a section for regular guitar players would be a welcomed edition to the Steel Forum. Yes there are countless guitar sites out there, but how many are associated with the Steel guitar??

There are numerous guitar players here that could benefit from info sharing. Also the added incentive would be that other guitar players would come to the Forum as a result of the guitar section and have access to info about the steel guitar. There are a lot of underarm guitar players out there who dabble at the steel and others who might become interested after being here and seeing what great info there is here on the instrument.

A standard guitar section would be very welcomed.

I don't necessarily agree. This is the Steel Guitar Forum - nothing more, nothing less.

There is a Recording Section here. That is not in the realm of "nothing more, nothing less".

There is also a Computer section and an Electronics section.

I see quite a few discussions about six string guitar in Music.
I've looked at a couple of guitar forums out there, but I felt like they were a little harsh. Things get rough around here sometimes, but I feel like overall this is a very pleasant group of people.
I don't know that we need a new section but I imagine I would use it.

If you notice, most the other guitar groups reflect the personna of youth-ie. brashness, language, temperment etc. I think a shot of that around here would be a welcomed jolt.

All you need is a very hands on, no jive allowed moderator. A cross between Mother Theresa and Hannibal Lector. That would keep everything civil and weed out the rift raft.

The $5 cover charge would be enough to ward off most trouble makers.

O.K., I'll put it another way - how diluted do you want your forum to be? I realize there are a variety of sections, but don't they address recording STEEL GUITAR? Electronics for STEEL GUITAR? Computer help for STEEL GUITAR players? Heck, even STEEL GUITAR-specific humor?

I have a lot of interests in life (I also play standard guitar), but if I want to read or ask questions about firearms, fishing, aviation or stamp-collecting, I'll go and look for like-minded people interested in those things; one of the great attractions for me about The Steel Guitar Forum is it's uniqueness.

This ain't Wal-Mart, y'know.

I don't think that adding to the forum a section on standard guitar would dilute the forum at all.

You know when I log on the forum I have to make a concerted effort to click on the links to the sections I am interested in. There are sections that I have never even looked at. If you are not interested in a section then you would never need to read anything on it.

That would be the "Great Wal of China Mart".
