Mozilla has released a security update to Firefox browser, as version 1.5.0.7, on September 15, 2006. If you have Firefox set to automatically check for updates you will be notified while you are online and offered an upgrade on the spot. Your browsers will close, then one will re-open to the Firefox has been updated webpage. You may have to acknowledge the changed program in your firewall, or it may be denied Internet access. I had to tell ZoneAlarm to allow the new version to connect out.

The release notes and instructions for manual updating are here: http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/releases/1.5.0.7.html

Aaaargh!

Now it's impossible to vote at
javascript opWin('http://radiodalarna.cepus.se/mia/topplistan/poll.asp',400,450)
after updating, even though I have permitted javascript at that page. What's wrong?
I have unistalled Firefox, downloaded it once more and installed it again with no change.

Anders

Anders, it doesn't open in IE or Opera either so it's probably a problem with the site, not with your browser settings..

My system did an automatic update of the Firefox software and advised me the next time I opened the site. All my bookmarks are gone and the bookmark folder indicated empty. the bookmark icon on the top toolbar was gone. Anyone else had this happen?

Anytime you see that error it tells you that the Webmaster screwed up with an update to the server configuration files. I know this from personal experience ;-(

Server error 500 is the last thing I want to see in my access logs, but it happens.

I didn't have any problems or lost bookmarks after performing an instant upgrade from 1.5.0.6 to 1.5.0.7.

Pat--that's a drag. FWIW, my upgrade (1.5.0.6 to 1.5.0.7) was also uneventful. This is the sort of thing where I don't need excitement.

Mine updated automatically, without loss of bookmarks or anything else, as far as I know.

Pat;
Your installation is corrupted. Uninstall Firefox, delete the program folder (Program Files\Mozilla Firefox), reboot, then reinstall FF. Your cookies, bookmarks and settings/preferences are stored in (C):\Documents and Settings\(Your Account Name)\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\(some characters).default\(various files and folders)

Your cookies are in that folder, saved as cookies.txt. Your bookmarks are saved in bookmarks.html. The various .js and RDF files can be opened in Notepad to read their contents.

When Firefox first came out, I loved it. Now it seems the more security updates I get, the worse it works and the more "program not responding" errors I get, on both my laptop and desktop. I'll uninstall it and try a fresh install as Wiz recommends. Right now I'm using Internet Explorer and I haven't used that in a looong time, and I'm downloading the new version of Netscape. Firefox better work better than this after the reinstall or it's history.

I have Firefoxe's auto update, and the last one which you guys speak of went off like a charm for me; so far.

But maybe I don't push it like you guys do. I just use it as my main browser; ie. in place of IE.

Thanks Wiz. I didn't find the file where you suggested but knowing what I was looking for enabled me to search. Found an old bookmarks file at :\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Archive\Application Data\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\ieib3g23.default

I was able to import that and saved a lot of work recollecting useful links.

Appreciate your help.
