Got a MXLV63M condenser mic. It requires 48-volt phantom power.

Question:
Will my Creative Live sound card produce the required power to operate this mic at maximum efficiency? It uses the plug-in unit located on the front of the computer. Can't find anything in the specs.

Or will I require a standalone microphone preamplifier?

Using XP, lots of ram, etc.

Thanks

PC sound cards only supply 5 VDC and also require a higher level than that mike can provide.

Get a mic preamp that also has phantom power in it.

Or (maybe) even better, a small mixer with phantom power. Behringer makes some nice ones for around $100 to $250 that would work well.

Mackie comes to mind next but the price will be slightly higher for the exact same features and specs.

Picked up a dual 48-volt phantom power unit this afternoon. Cost me $55 and works great.

Thanks for your replies.
