Do you have "windows media player"? Does it work ?
It sounds like the quicktime player is receiving to much input signal.
To save a lot of hassle, I would use "Media Player".
I installed a program that automatically installed Quicktime. After that happened, It took a long time for online mp3s to download and play. I uninstalled quicktime,re-associated media player to play mp3 files. Now I am happy again. You need to do the "complete uninstall" to get all the Quicktime files removed.

Hi Joe, if you could have hung in there and found the problem with QT you would have enjoyed the benifits. Quick Time is much faster and much less obtrusive i.e. it justs opens up a new window and plays your music files in about 1/10th the time and does not require all the resources that WM player does, but I do understand the hassle of troubleshooting issues. More than likely it just needed to be setup a little different than it was. For future refference if you want to tweak the settings in QT just right click the player as it starts to play a file and go thru the properties and change the input and output options.
