Hey everyone!

A few months ago, I decided to try my hands on dobro (been a pedal player for about 4 years) and here are some recordings I made of my playing a while ago. The sound quality isn't too good and the files are quite compressed, but anyway...

A little swing improvisation

An idea for an instrumental little tune

Some blues dobro doodling

Improvised solo version of Ashokan Farewell

A merry X-mas to y'all!

Nice, Niklas. I especially dug the swing tune---who's the guitar player?

Niklas, I really like these a lot. In some ways I hear more of your personality coming through in these cuts. You should keep up with this non-pedal playing, it really suits you well. Your pedal steel playing is phenominal, but sometimes it's hard to get beyond your amazing technique to hear the musician underneath. These cuts are personal and moving.

Niklas - great clips, nice tone and touch. What type of resonator guitar are you using and are you using the standard G tuning? Keep the clips coming - if you you post them, we will listen...

Thanks guys! The guitar I'm using is a Regal RD45 upgraded with a quarterman cone and new spider, bridge inserts and nut. All the files were recorded when the strings were old and dead, so they don't really show the real tone of the guitar, which is quite amazing for being such an inexpensive guitar.

Happy holidays!

That's great work! Very professional and in the Jerry Douglas style. Do you gig/tour with anybody?

Thanks, Travis! No, I'm not playing dobro with any band...would be fun, though.

Wow I guess I should've waited to post my last question until I heard all the clips.

Once again Niklas....keep it up! Sounds great!

Niklas,

I would say those are incredible clips for someone who had been playing for years... The fact that you only picked up the dobro a few months ago make them astonishing!

Great job and I wish you a very happy and prosperous New Year.

Respectfully,
Dave Burr

Niklas, those clips are very nice! Your playing reminds a lot of Rob Ickes.

I also play a version of Ashokan Farewell (in D rather than G), but my version is nowhere near as imaginative. I hope you don't mind if I "borrow" a few of your ideas.
