I am running Windows XP (home) on a Dell and use Outlook Express 6 for my E-Mail .

When I open Outlook Express and click on "creat a new message" the page that opens up will not reach all the way across the monitor screen. There is a gap on the left side of the page that will not fill the monitor screen all the way over . Even the right / left little arrow will not expand the left side of the page edge. It will move the page right ok but not left.

The only way I can get the page to fill the screen is to click on the Maximize button and that will fill out the monitor screen with the creat message page. I might add that the "X" that closes this page is hidden on the right side of the screen until I click on the Maximize button .

I have done all I know to do to correct this minor problem but so far, it's been to no avail. If any of you PC savy folks can give me some help I would appreciate it.I know enough about these computers to just about fill a thimble.

How can I get that page to open up fully without me having to click on the Maximize button every time? I have tried Dell support but that has not worked.

Thanks very much for your help !

John

I'm not sure I understand the question. But did you know that you can double-click on a window's title bar to maximize/unmaximize that window?

Gary,
Thanks for your reply ! No, I did not know to click on the Title bar to maximize or
unmaximize .I thank you for the tip !

I don't explain too well when it comes to computers !

I guess it may become clearer to you for me to ask why should I have to click on the title bar or the maximize button every time the "new message" page is diplayed for it to fill out the monitor screen on the left side of the monitor screen ? Why won't the page come up already filled out ? There is a gap on the left side of the "new message" page of about three inches and will not fill the monitor screen until I click on the title bar or the Maximize button. The page fills out after clicking on either but the page now shows unmaximize in the button rather than maximize.I assume the page has to be unmaximized in order to display properly without the gap on the left side. so how do I make that setting a default?

I hope I have not complicated or confused you or anyone further with this mess of a discription .

Sorry if I have and I appreciate your help Gary and you or others that might reply, for having patience with this computer dummy !

I haven't been able to find a way to get the compose window to start maximized, but you can get pretty close. If you drag and resize the compose window (without using the maximize button in the upper right corner), the next time you compose a message the window will open in the same location. So just drag and resize the window manually until it takes up all of your screen.

Will ,
Thanks for your reply !

If by "draging" you mean to use the little arrow that points left and right, putting it on the left edge of the page and move it left ? I have done that but it will not move the page left past that gap. It moves the page right fine. However, when I drag it back left it will only move the page left until it reaches the point where the problem is . It will not drag past that point and cover the small gap left that I am trying to cover up.

Thanks for your suggestion!

Dragging is when you click (and hold the button down) on the title bar, move the object to a new location, and then release the mouse button.

If you do that, get it where you want it, and then close the window (with the x button), it should open in the same spot next time. If you drag the window where you want it, maximize it, then close it, the next time it should open in maximized position.

Hi Gary,

Sorry I am a little late in answering you last message ! Been doing some chores !

That is a perfect and easy solution to my problem !! I really appreciate the good lessons you have given me ! I'm glad to know some additional "moves" on this monster by someone who apparently really knows his "stuff" about computers . I would have NEVER known or thought to drag on the title bar itself but things are a OK now and just like I want them .

Likewise, I hope I can be of some help to you sometime. I can answer some questions about steel guitars in case I can help you in that regard ,someday !

Thanks again and have a great 4th !!!
