Topic: BIAB won't come out of the hole |

I have a computer that someone gave me that I want to set up strictly for recording. I know it has a Ensoniq AudioPCI sound card. I can play CD's on the CD drive, but they only come out through the jack on the front. I have installed BIAB on the computer, and it appears to be playing (the notes dance around on the screen), but no sound comes out of the line out jack on the back.
The computer will play some music from the back jack, when I go to Amazon.com and click on a sample from a CD. How do I get the BIAB connected to the jacks on the back? I also have an copy of Cakewalk Guitar Tracks Pro (NOT 3) that I bought specifically because it's compatible with an older computer, but I'm not sure that there's any point installing it until I can get the BIAB signal out of the back. |

Sounds like a midi problem. The "music" you're downloading from Amazon, or wherever, are undoubtedly in some "music" format or another, mp3, wav, etc. Your PC is configured to know what program to use to play those files.
Midi isn't "music", it's data. Both Band-in-a-box and your PC need to be configured to know what to do with a midi file.
Most sound cards have an on-board midi synthesizer, or other facility, which can convert the midi information to analog and play a sound. Depending on your PC OS, somewhere in the setup (Control Panel/Sounds is typical) there's an applet where you can designate the midi module to use to play midi files.
The Band-in-a-box "Help" utility addresses midi set-up inside the application. |

It coulde be as simple as unmuting midi in your mixer. Did you go to Options at the top of BIAB and select a midi driver? Under Opt/Midi driver setup there should be a list of drivers on the computer.
