I just bought a National tricone model one.
The previous owner, which I trust since he is my steel and dobro teacher, says it dates back to the end of the 20's.
It has a number stamped on back of the neck : 395.
Can this number give a precise date to the instrument.
Thanks to you wizards in vintage instruments who will help me.

This site has information on dating vintage Nationals. Your serial number dates it around 1928.
Bob Brozman's book The History and Artistry of National Resonator Instruments has even more detailed information on dating National resonator instruments. If you own a vintage National you should buy the book. It's full of information on the history of National, the instruments and caring for them. It is well illustrated. |

Definitely 1928 according to Brozman's book.
Enjoy your tricone. I used to own SN 547, also 1928.

I have sn#2169 style 1 squareneck, I "assumed your was a squareneck.

It is definitely a 1928 model.
It means Tut Taylor was 5 when this guitar was made. I'm sure it'll bring me good luck then !

My National square neck guitar I purchase for $200 in the mid sixties serial #1045 in nice condition.According to the book it is a 1928.
