Here is a vintage Black Diamond Hawaiian Guitar String on Ebay. It is a No. 904 A or 5th string. I believe it is a wound string. I have the paper envelope from a vintage Black Diamond Hawaiian Guitar Sting No. 902 A or 3rd string. This one was a plain steel string.
Could any of you "old timers" tell me the difference between these two strings and maybe the tuning?

Lee;
Since I'll be 68 next Feb. I guess I qualify as an ‘Old Timer’! I used to have to use a Black Diamond Tenor-Guitar A-1st for a .012p high G#/A back in the late ’40's, early ’50's. (they were in Red-Envelopes w/Black-Printing) Anyway, with an A–5th. I would say that the Hawai'ian Tuning being used was (A) w/Low-Bass: (6-E–(5-A–(4-E–(3-A–(2-C#–(1-E. Just a ‘stab-in-the-dark’¡

I seldom throw away old strings. I have a box full of them for some reason, I guess I'm a packrat. In this box I also have a pile of NEW Black Diamond strings which have never been opened! Maybe I should hang on to them for another 50 years ? |

Keoki;
Why don't you try to use some of them? They might hold a secret to the illusive Authentic-Hawai'ian sound! (Although from listening to your playing, I don't think you really need any help along those lines!) That's meant as a compliment to your playing! [As authentic as it gets!] IMHO!

Early in my career, I always asked for and bought "Black Diamond" strings, because I had been advised that they were the best. I still don't know if that was true!
