I just recieved a 1952 Fender D6. It has a walnut stain and trapezoid pickups. Is this a Dual Pro or a Custom? Also, there is no engraved Fender script on the tuner pan like on Studio Deluxes and Champs. Was that standard? My model does have Fender script on front and Fender Fullerton logo plate in the middle. Two chrome diamonds on front and back. Thanks for any info and Merry Christmas. |

Eric what you have is an original Dual Pro and to make it more desirable it is a walnut guitar. Not just finished in walnut but the wood is true walnut. All Dual Pro's and Customs were discontiued in the fall of 1954
due to the extra cost of walnut. Fender then switched to blonde now known as "butter scotch.
Hang on to that guitar its a "rare bird" and will be more valuable as time goes by.
Great guitar and a Lucky guy owns it one of few around these days. What you have is ORIGINAL.
Merry Christmas and play your guitar in good health my friend

Eric, It's a Dual Six Professional. The Custom was the triple-neck eight. The tuner pans then, did not have the Fender logo.
All of the Fender models with the trapezoidal pickups were dropped somewhere circa 1955 and were replaced with the Stringmasters. |

Eric, Jody's reply beat mine in. Jody is the man to which you should pay attention. He's the forum's last word on Fender. |

"shush" Rick, you know I'm the Fender guru.
Rick is correct as usual. You were born too late, you would have made a great Fender salesman.
Merry Christmas guys

i just got an double eight like that. so it's really solid walnut, not just stained ash or maple? it IS really heavy.
mine is serial #1536, which i'm assuming is 1952 from the info i've seen. there aren't any markings or pieces of tape under the tuners. did they pencil in dates anywhere else?
unfortunately, someone sawed off the nut on one of the necks, and replaced it with a big piece of lucite. works fine, but looks funky. i'm looking forward to it's first gig on new years eve.

I bought a ’49–’50 Fender T–8 Custom from a pawn shop back in ’79. Due to the 'poor' red paint job that someone had given it previously, I immediately re-finished it Black. Just in recent months I discovered, with Jody's assurance; looking at the hole for the leg-socket reveals that my guitar is actually real Walnut, for which I attribute some of the credit for it's exceptional tone-quality. Had I known about the different types of wood back in ’79, I might have refinished it with a Natural/Clear finish! One thing I do know is that it's not for sale at any price!

jody-
i'm not complaining, believe me. it's a wonderful guitar. the lucite nut actually has a little wider string spacing, which is nice.
besides, if i was worried about "funky looking", i'd have to take down all the mirrors in my house.
john
i almost forgot. there's one just like mine on ebay right now.[This message was edited by John Rosett on 23 December 2004 at 10:34 PM.] |

I also own a dual-pro #1502. It is a great insturment. Great sound, brighter than my stringmaster but fun to play.
Hang on to that baby. These Fenders are getting harder to find.
Just a hint: I go through a Digitech RP50 to get more bass, delay, etc. Makes a WORLD of difference!

the wiring on mine has been boogered with, and the inbord neck is really bright, while the outboard neck is very deep sounding. the three way switch doesn't work like it should, and the tone control is not original, and doesn't work. it's going in for wiring repair on monday.
