Topic: Reboot loses cookies |

| On my XP Home rig, any time I reboot I lose my forum preference settings, among other things. It would seem that I have a setting somewhere that dumps cookies on shut down, right? I can't figure how to change this. Any help? |

You can check tools/internet options/privacy/web sites/edit in IE to allow or block cookies for any site. Also, you might have another program running, like Tweak UI f'rinstance, that dumps your cookies when you close your browser.
Hmmm, I'll have to click "submit reply" again...

I'd try a different browser and see what happens. Some good ones at www.mozilla.org

I don't have any trouble with the Forum cookie, as it always remembers me. However, almost every day Yahoo forgets my user ID, even though I click the box to remember it. This is with IE 6 SP1 and all the latest security patches.  |

Yahoo deliberately deletes every password once in a 24 hour period or sooner if the user wants it shorter than that. But in any case at least every 24 hours. IMO, one of the absolute dumbest things I have encountered on the enternet.
Why in heaven's name they do not give the user an option for "NON" delete is beyond me. But they don't. Typical "power" mentality and "one size fits all", I believe.

Try this, Jon:
In the "Security" tab of Internet Options, click the "Custom Level..." button. This gives you a scrolling "Security Settings" dialog.
Towards the bottom of it, in the "Miscellaneous" section there's a setting for "Userdata persistence". Make sure that this is set to "enable".
Just a hunch...

Possible solution, depending on your version of Internet Explorer:
1: Choose Tools, Internet Options.
2: Click the Advanced tab.
3: In the Security section of the Settings list, un-select Empty Temporary Internet Files Folder WhenBrowser Is Closed.

I could have sworn that there was a "toss your cookies at the end of a session" option on my old W95 system but I can't find anything like that here on XP. |
