I have downloaded about 50 mp3 files from Loretta Lynn's Van Lear Rose CD, but can't listen.
Each file exhibits one of these 3 "features"
1. totally silent. After about 30 seconds the CD drive stops spinning but the minutes:seconds counter keeps counting (Windows Media Player 7.01.00.3055 copyright 1992..2000)
2 I can hear the music just fine for half a minute, but then white noise (LOUD!!) then maybe the music comes back for a few seconds or maybe not
3. OK for half a mintue, followed by spells of silence.
I have similar problems using Winamp (but they won't play at all there sometimes).
Most mp3 files still play OK on this Windows Media Player.
What could be the problem? |

Since other MP3s work, I'd suspect the source file is corrupt.
It could be that the bad files are intentionally planted by folks in the industry to discourage downloading. |

If ya didn't get them thru authorized channels I wouldn't advise talking about it too much. |

Try making sure the CD-RW will play in a different machine, (another computer, or your DVD player might work, also). I had somewhat of the same problem when I upgraded my old computer to XP. My CDR's that I made with the old add on software, would not show up in XP. Even though they seemed to be there, they were invisible 90% of the time. Never did figure out why, exactly.

Have you tried QuickTime?
You know, if I wanted to hear something bad enough to download it 50 times, I'd take that as a clue to buy the CD! |

The files play with the same problems in QuickTime, WinAmp, and Windows Media Player.
It sure seems odd that dozens of different files from the same album all have similar "features".

That's more proof for me that my above post is correct. |
