I don't know what happened but lately everytime I've tried to get on the net via Internet Explorer all I get is this frustrating error message. I can't seem to get to the bottom of it. I am presently using Netscape Communicator and that seems to be trouble free. I checked my computer for viruses and that comes up negative. Is anyone else experiencing this problem? I get my e-mail via Outlook Express and don't have any problem with that. I even bit the bullet and installed Windows XP professional yesterday and that wasn't any help either.

Erv, is it a specific error message?
Look for a damaged IE object.
Right click on the IE icon, settings / view objects. If you can into IE, then its tools'internet options / settings / view objects.
See if any show 'status' as damaged. ? |

Thanks Tom,
I get the same error message every time. It has to be the way my computer tries to access Explorer. Everything else on the net works ok. I'll do as you suggested.
Thanks,
Erv

b0b,
It says: "Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience". I get this message and I'm not even connected to IE yet. I think something needs to be reset to access IE.
Help!!

Tom,
I think we are definitely closing in on the problem! Stay tuned, I'm going to see if this left-handed Norwegian can get this resolved or else I might have to bring in a Swede!
Uff-Da!
Tom,
I checked into the error report and the signature information is different that what you showed. It says something about a "bucket" or whatever.
Tom,
I got it fixed! I was just about to give up and then I went into Control Panel and Internet Properties (advanced). I looked under browsing and clicked on "enable install on demand (Internet Explorer)". This did the trick. Even a blind squirrel gets lucky and finds an acorn once in a while!!!

Erv,
Only problem is, you definitely do not want Install on Demand enabled. It leaves you at the mercy of trojans, spyware, and malware that loads things on your computer without your knowledge.
Try changing the setting to "Prompt", then deny anything that tries to install unless it's something you are intentionally downloading. |
