Normally when I view any forum page, Internet Explorer perfectly fits it to my window size. Of course, I still have to use the up/down scroll, but I don't have to scroll side/side. But every once in a while, a post will seem to expand to fill the whole screen, and a side/side scroll bar suddenly appears at the bottom of the window. I then have to scroll to the right and left to read the post, unless I expand it to fill the entire screen. Anyone know why it does this sometimes? Is there something I should adjust with my windows explorer to prevent the screen from doing this?

| I suspect that in the posts you mention someone has inserted HTML which forces the page to a specific size. The only thing you can do is change the size of your type to make it fit - View - Text Size. |

Jeff,
MY NUMBER ONE PEATE PEAVE on this forum.
I would give anything if b0b would remove ANY post that causes that to happen. It is soo frustrating to have to use the horizontal scroll bar to do just what you describe.
I was guilty of doing that accidently once on this forum. Course in that case the thread was closed. I suppose it depends on who causes it  My question is, "why close the thread? Why not simply remove the guilty post?"
On some "word" software programs, their is a feature called "word wrap" which prevents that. I wonder IF that feature was made available on this forum, if it would stop the above. Sure would be nice if so.

| The Forum does use word wrap, but when someone enters a long string of characters with no delimiters (space, comma, period, etc.) there is no wrap point, so the software has to put it all on one line. Of course, pictures that are too large can not be wrapped either. |

It's often because people cut and paste long links. When I see that, I often edit the post to use the "click here" syntax described in the UBB Code Help File.
Another problem is wide images. That is harder to fix, but sometimes I make the effort using raw HTML. My basic goal in these edits is to correct the problem without damaging the author's intent.
I disagree with the notion that a "guilty post" should be removed. People make those mistakes innocently enough.
Word wrap is built into the Forum. It just breaks down when people put in really long words.

Carl, I don't remember closing a topic because of a "too wide" problem. Maybe it was before I learned how to fix it, or maybe I couldn't figure out any way to fix it without destroying your intent. In either case, I didn't remove your message, as you suggest I should do with others.
There's no rule against bad formatting. We just deal with it as best we can.

| Okay...now I understand. One of my goals over the holidays is learn how to finally use the 10 MB of webspace I have with my ISP, so I can mess around with posting pictures,files,and stuff. Hopefully I can figure out how to make the pic small enough that it won't distort the post size. |

You are correct, you did not remove my post. You closed the thread. I believe You should have deleted my post. Because it caused every OTHER post to be tooo wide. Just as I feel that any thread which contains a post that causes ALL other posts to be too wide should be removed.
If you did this for a while, I believe the problem would go away in a very short time.
I simply cannot see why a single post should cause all others to be way too wide; when removing that post would alleviate the problem.
In any case I will respect your decision.

If you're resizing images, try to keep the width at 480 pixels or less. That size pretty much guarantees that it will work for all of the people who use the Forum.
Respectfully, Carl, I must respond that I don't think deleting people's posts would solve the problem. Most people don't understand the cause. Some would conclude that we had "censored" them for some reason, and get mad about it.
I look for the simplest solution that will preserve the author's intent.
