The spam mail is getting rediculous.
It isn't an enjoyment checking my mail anymore. I have to delete 30 to 40 spams every time I log on.
To add insult to injury, it pops email addresses into my address book and I have to clean that up also. Isn't there a law?????

| Joe, I get 30 to 50 spams daily... 75% of them are smut, and maybe it's time to go back to snail mail, although that's also polluted with spam, all those flyers, election promises & garbage mail.. I got a hold of a program called Mailwasher Pro, but haven't configured it yet.. It's supposed to send mail that you don't want back to sender, in effect telling them that your address is non existant... I'll have to try it before too long.. I have some friends using Mail Washer and like it but I dont think it eliminates all the spam and it doesnt work with web based email accounts such as Yahoo, etc
It is supposed to work with ISP based email accounts such as Outlook Express Outlook has a security setting that will block any doubtful attachments but also blocks opening lots of things you might want. You have to go into the settingss to change the level of security you want for this feature
I personaly prefer Yahoo as nothing actually comes into your computer unless you open it, just click the little box on an email and hit delete , then hit empty trash and it never comes in. You can use their spam feature and most advertisements go to the bulk mail and this can be deleted all at once too, but occasionaly mail you want goes there too someway
Seems there is no perfect way to eliminate it all as any program you use that has to have you email address will load you up with ads, New York Times,Trailer Life, Weather Bug, etc

| Lawrence I have a friend that uses Mailwasher, & swears by it.. The way he explains it is that it doesn't actually filter spam out, what it does is that it bounces mail you don't want back to the sender, eventually they think your address is no good & you are taken off their list.. I use yahoo, but the block feature only holds about 100, & I get that in a day & a half... I do like yahoo, because I can get my mail anywhere, but with 4 megs limit, it sure fills up with junk.. & I still get a lot of spam into my inbox..Changing address is another option, I guess. I also have Outlook, but they block stuff that I want sometime.. |

This is a 'feature' of Outlook Express that is 'on' by default in some versions. You can turn it off. Poke around in the Outlook Express configuration dialogs and you'll find a checkbox for it.
Also, turn off the automatic preview mechanism. That way you can easily delete all spam just by looking at the title/sender without opening the email.

| Have your ISP add a new email address to your account. After about a month, you should have all your important sites changed to the new address. Then you can remove the old email address from your account. You'll probably pay a small fee ($3) for this. But the spam problem will be solved for a while. |
