I would really appreciate any advice on getting a Website Hosting/Domain Name Registration Service for my new business.
I have experimented with this stuff using my personal web space ... but they say it is not for "Use in promoting products" and the URL is unsightly.
I want to get a nice Domain name, have space for lots of pics and mp3s and get listed with Search Engines ....
I have looked around and read up on it ... but figured I might get less headaches if I asked here before acting ..
Thanks y'all ... in advance ....

Rick,
The company I use for my website (www.darkmagneto.com) is Ready Hosting (www.readyhosting.com). They charge $100/year and it has more space than you will ever need and also unlimited bandwidth. They also take care of all the registration for you. I think there is a setup fee of $25 or something like that, not sure. $100/year works out to $8.33 a month. That is a GREAT deal and they are VERY reputible.
Just my $.02
Mark

Glad you asked, Rick. I was gonna ask the same question. I'm tired of telling people to check out my site and when they ask where, saying, uh...doubleyoudoubleyoudoubleyou dot anglefire dot com slash ny slash lightsound slash startup dot html
Thanks for the info, Mark. |

As far as audio streaming ... I always enjoy a site that does this ... sometimes I won't download an mp3 ... but I'll stream to hear somethin' ...
I emailed 'em and they said they allow http: audio streaming not RealAudio streaming .... ????
Anybody familiar with this ...
And while I have y'alls "ear" ... I just got done with a mind-numbing look at the world of "Web Site Submissions" to Search Engines.
Granted there won't be a mass rush for my products ... but I would like to show up on searches ... any suggestions here ...
Thanks again .... this section of the forum is most informative !!!

Many servers (not the free ones) routinely submit your site to search engines and will help you install html tags that will get you noticed. www.genejones.com |

Thanks Rick....the high number of visits to my website have been unusual considering the relatively short period of time it's been up, but even more surprising is that the Usage statistics from my server indicate that nearly all countries around the world are represented in those visits.
My website is like a "vanity license tag" on an automobile because it serves no useful purpose whatsoever. But,it's been an interesting hobby and an exercise in learning something new and well worth the small costs required to maintain it.
Best wishes,
Gene |

Gene, my good buddy, Vanity MY BUTTE !!!
You can tell that a lot of hard work has gone into your site. Don't sell yourself so short. It may be vanity to a small extent but don't forget, it's interesting, and also has some historical value as well. You can be proud of it !!!

Hi Rick, we use www.hostway.com for our web hosting and they ,like many offer a package for domain name registration as well for a reduced cost.
I registered our names thru www.namesecure.com and then linked the domain name to our web hosting..
It's easier than it sounds.
good luck

Another hosting site to consider is www.powweb.com . I just checked their site; they are offering a package for $7.77/mo. with 2 months free. They can also register your domain name for $15/yr. I've been very satisfied with them. They also have a number of useful advice forums.
Good luck.

Rick,
Did you go with ReadyHosting? I think you will be REALLY happy with the performance of their sites. I have had NO problems with them and I am very picky on some of my details about hosting companies. I found them on the ZDNet website. They were voted #1 hosting company for a bunch of months straight and I was really pissed off at my old hosting company (C.I. Host) so I changed and have never been happier!
Anyway, for any other steeler reading this who has ever thought of wanting a website, I think ReadyHosting is the way to go. Great service and it is only $100/year. That is $8.33 a month! Pretty cheap and they have never let me down.
