Topic: How to Fix "clogged"email |

| GURUS: Several days ago I received an email with some photos from a Forum member. Immediately after that, the same message SLOWLY tried to crawl in repeatedly (12 times in all). Each time a notice read "message failed" and the emails could not be opened. Now I have a backlog of 54 emails waiting to come in but can't. Seems that a bottleneck has been created. Any ideas out there for solving this would be welcome. I will contact my service provider in a few days. Should I ask that all the waiting emails on their server be deleted? | Try www.mail2web.com where you can probably delete the offending emails and see the ones you want to see. |

| I've had that happen with a malformed email before, when I had dial up. I called my ISP's tech support and had them delete it so the rest of the messages could get through. |

If your ISP also allows you to check your mail thru a Web Browser, log on that way and delete the messages.
If not call your ISP tech support. This is a common problem, they'll know how to delete the messages. |

| EARNEST, JIM, & JOEY, Thank you all for your advice; with it I was able to get my email back up and running. Seems the problem was due to one huge email (4614K) and a case of "email constipation". I took Earnest's advice and was able to delete selected emails to finally eliminate the offending party. If that had not worked, I'd have used Jim and Joey's advice. One question, Joey: was the webhosting service that Earnest mentioned an exampleofa "web browser" you mention? I Know that Netscape is an example of a browser. Again, I greatly appreciate all of you taking the time to help a poor boy in distress. The Steel Forum is indispensible in large part due to the selfless help given buy guys like you. Please don't close this post yet. I'm anxious to hear what others have to say on similar matters. |

I don't know the program Earnest has mentioned.
I'll explain what I'm talking about:
A standard email program requires you to have it installed on your computer. You can only read/send email if you have that program installed. Example: Outlook
A Web-based email program does not require any program on your computer, other than an Internet Web Browser such as IE or Netscape. Though slower, you can check your email where-ever you can surf the web.
Some ISPs provide both options with the same email account. Very handy. I use Outlook at home, and the Web-based mail when I'm away.

| Hi, Joey, I think Earnest's suggestion was more web based. I do use Outlook Express as my email program, but because of the one huge email, I was unable to get any emails to come in. When I did what Earnest said, I could see all my emails and could delete those chosen. I did delete the large one and it was only then that I could use my regular Outlook email program. Earnest might correct me if I am wrong, but I think his suggestion now allows me to access my email from anywhere in the world whereas previously I had to go through me home computer. That is why I think it is web based. Thanks again for your explanation. |

Right; mail2web does what Joey's ISP does but without the javascript and other extra stuff.
And you can also send email from anywhere using mail2web. |
