Since I installed XP Home Edition, I am having trouble receiving files and chat requests from friends on ICQ that I could do previously with my windows 98. Any ideas ? Thank you.

I hope it is just a fluke because I am going to put XP HOME on mine and I sure would hate it if ICQ didn't work..I use ICQ a lot. Let me know if it finally works. Thanks

I did some research on www.icq.com and found no issues similar to this. I am not familiar with ICQ so would it be possible to uninstall and then install the latest version with the latest patches? That would be my recommendation.

I don't use ICQ so I can't give first-hand advice.

An ICQ reinstall is a good first step.
The ICQ site says it works with XP.

Maybe it's a firewall issue?

I suggest you post your question on the MS XP Message Boards. http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/expertzone/newsgroups/default.asp

I had to un install ICQ then re-install it and now it seems to work fine.If you want to try it and then give me a message you can tell if it is working. My ICQ # is 128213486. Give it a shot if you like.

Thanks guys but I feel like it's something to do with windows 98 which the others have and XP which I now have. I reloaded it but it's the same. I am going to try the "run ICQ as" program where it will run it as 98 to see if the two computers will communicate better that way. By the way, all of us that talk are running the new version 2002a ICQ program. I'll post if the above helps.

I recently bought a pc with Home XP on it. It had so much junk on it that I would never use so I took it to my office and had the pc techs remove Home XP and install Windows Office XP Professional. Now I can do everything at home just like I do at the office. It works great and the Desktop screen is not cluttered up with unnecessary crap that I would never use. I did the same thing with my WIN 98 machine. Removed the Home version and installed the Office version. It's a lot cleaner and I don't have the problems that I had with the Home ver. However, the Win 9x versions don't seem to be as stable as the WIN XP versions. I run WIN 2000 at the ofc and it is very stable on a Compaq DP6000. It takes a while to get use to the new icons on XP but I find that I like it better.
