Hi folks
My name is Bud, and I'm a new member to this forum. I am a bass player with 25 years of playing experience who also plays guitar and just recently started playing lap steel. I got interested in the steel from the pedal steel player in our regular weekend band. He started out on lap steel, and recommended that I try that. I build instruments as a hobby, so I built myself a lap steel and have taken a couple of on-line lessons from a really nice guy in Nova Scotia named Roy Thomson. He got me started, and when time and money allow, I hope to get a few more lessons from him.
My lap steel is a 6 string, made of maple and rosewood. I used a standard Tele bridge, with the string spacing max'd out and a Fender single coil pick-up. I have chosen the E6/E13 tuning, as this seemed the easiest to learn, and I like the way it plays and the country swing sound. I haven't done anything since college that is this addictive.. Lap steel is just really satisfying to play. But then you already knew that..
If anyone wants to know what it looks like and how it sounds (warning..I'm the one playing it), I can post a short MP3 and a picture, if that kind of thing is ok on this forum.
I'm looking forward to meeting you and learning lots.
Thanks
Bud

Welcome aboard Bud. Please do post your MP3 and pics.
And yea, Howard's right; ...silly humor and such nonsense is definitly frowned upon. Sport coats, bow-ties, and Perrier only.

Yes welcome dude.
Be careful what you wish for here, you might get it.
No question is too stupid to ask...
because somebody here was stupid enough to ask it already...
So doing searches before asking isn't a bad idea...
other wise you risk restarting age old conundrums and symantic flopdoodles
As you know from reading here :
We NEVER go off topic,
We NEVER discuss anything BUT steel
We NEVER change our minds, except when we do
Everybody plays pedals... volume pedals
Everybody thinks alike, and agree always
Everybody is grey and wide and old
Steel guitars of all flavors make us a family...
of irracible curmudgeons.
Enjoy.

Thanks for the kind words and encouragement. I know I will learn a lot here. I will try and post a pic and sound clip later this week. Can you actually attach files to these posts, or do I need to find a web site to host the files, and then post a link here? Any info would be helpful.
Thanks

Bud - ya gotta host the files somewhere and then link here. Click on UBB Code on the left side of screen where you type your replies. Scroll down a ways and you will find the right tags and how to use them.
