Anyone know what's missing on my MAC (at work and at home) Some pictures don't open when the thread comes up in BarChatter. Do some only open automatically on an IBM platform??? Example: Jim Cohen's recent shots, Jim advised me that they are indeed jpegs...I thought these could cross platforms? Any help appreciated. Thanks
regards.
Gord

I have this same problem occasionally and have not figured out what it is yet!

Most of the time, if I copy the "img src" address line from the HTML source code and paste it into my browser's address line and go to it directly the image will appear in a separate window with no problem; and then, surprise, it will be open in the post when I return to it! But the other images will still be locked out; I'll have to repeat the process for each image! (Referring to Jim Cohen's post.)

Since most images in posts are not stored on the b0b.com server, your browser has to make a separate connection to another server to fetch the image. Sometimes the image's server is a lot slower than b0b.com, and the connection will take a long time or even time out.

Also, some of the free image hosting services are restricting direct access from pages that aren't partners with them. That is a recent phenomenon that has been causing problems.

FWIW, my images are stored on AOL's free server space for its customers.

b0b:
I'm not too swift on this stuff but I have to suspect it is what you are saying about some hosts not allowing the images to come up since some do and some don't.
I'm on "Sympatico" at home. If anyone in Canada is reading this and you are on Sympatico...do you get the pictures???
Thanks for the info gentlemen.
Regards.

I believe this is directly related to AOL. When i had the problem viewing Jim Cohen's jpegs i looked at his text and found a, from what i could tell, proprietary address. When i erased the extra character and then visited the file i could then see it. Then as b0b said, it remained in my cache which then enabled me to view it on the page.

Erik:
Can I trouble you to show me that "extra character" in the proprietary address that you edit out. I tried a few words that I thought might do it with no results. Thanks for the help all.

Gord,
The first time i had this problem i found that Jim's links were addressed like this:
http://members.aol.com:/jasaco/albertbud.jpg

Notice there is a colon after "com". My browser can't interpret that address. I erased the colon and entered the address into my browser. I was then able to view it. When i returned to the thread the jpeg remained in my cache during my session.

Can you post a link or tell me which new pictures you can't see on the forum? I'd liked to try it.

My WebTV browser incorporates both Mozilla and IE attributes. In case you might wonder. We're talking old versions too.

Guys, I just finished performing a multicolonectomy on my Bethlehem thread. The offending lines have been depunctuated. As far as I can tell, the colon is a vestigial organ that appears to have no current function, since everything seems to still be working fine following the surgery.
I'll try to remember that for the future.
Thanks for pointing it out to me,
jc
