I had one of the idiots at my computer store install a full version (not upgrade) of Windows '98. It seems to have solved most of my error message problems that I posted about earlier. I get the odd one, but isn't that the beauty of Microsoft?

Ditto Here....
My version is 4.10.2222A
@( Control Panel / System )

John, don't forget that all the "hot" diagnostic tools are built into "W98SE"

@ Start/programs/accessories/system tools/
system information/tools...

[ Most are probably licensed, ala' "defrag" by Symantec....]

I've tried them all (call be brave) and so far, they've all worked.

"Registry Checker" saved me from a loose nut behind the keyboard (operator error), painlessly!

As much as it hurts to admit it, after b*tch-slapping windows & vice-versa since 1990, I'm impressed with this latest build.
