If that tuner performs as advertised and will sell for 129.00 every where it will probably be a best seller. I don't know how he sells it so cheap they supposedly retail for 199.00 so that's quite a discount.
I might get one after a few other folks do and give us a good report :-)

Don't know how this differs from a Boss TU-2 in "streaming mode." I did read about some presets that might give it value add over the Boss. I guess I'll wait and see.

OK guys and gals,
I'm the guinea pig here .....I bit the bullet as I couldn't see buying another more costly product only to find that I would have to do a work around to properly tune my 12 string .... I felt like I was being penalized for playing a U-12....I will give a full report when I recieve it .....From my understanding, I can make my own presets, and yes it will handle all 12 strings, and I can make each note in the preset adjustable in .1 cent increments... The company is ready to handle any of your questions, and once I start to program this tuner, I will report back ... I also encouraged the owner of the company to devise a mount for this unit for our pedal steels....He's very accomadating , and seems like a very knowledgeable person ....Sincerely, Jim |

That's great, James. Thanks for being our guinea pig. I'm real interested as to whether this thing can "cut the mustard" for us steelers. Hope that owner listens to your advice....we'll see. |

My tuner was mailed out to me only a couple of hours of my ordering it !!...Great customer service ...I should have it on Tuesday !!... Now if I can just get my steel to stop popping 3rd strings, I will be able to tune it up in style !!... |

I bought a Perterson tuner and it was the best decision I ever made. $199.99 from Guitar Center. It can be pre-set for E-9 normal or slightly sharp like the pro's use.
It has a clamp to attach to the leg or the guitar. Works great on batteries or AC plug which is included. This is the only choice I think for the players who want to stay in tune.

David,
I have friends that use the Peterson Tuners and they are great tuners... The problem I have with them is the fact that I have to do a work around to use it to tune my 12 string...It's not optimised for 12 string use, but is however for 10 string guitar ..I can set up the tuner that I ordered for any instrument ...6,10, 12, 14 string, as well as open tunings ...I can also fine tune each note to plus or minus .1 cent increments and save these notes within the preset ... All this for a little bit more than 1/2 what you paid for yours ....I don't have the mount to attach it to my steel , so that is the downside .
The positives far outwiegh the negatives. Again, this is if the tuner I bought works as told to me ..It's got a 30 day money back garauntee also which makes it a no brainer ....I'll post more when it comes..Jim |

OK guys ...I got the tuner late yesterday...I have only used it in "automatic' mode, and it's VERY easy to use ..It has a backlit display that can be set to 4 different settings depending on how you want it to work ...The flashing LED's are ALWAYS lit when you turn the tuner on...If you are working in the dark, you can have the readout display backlit when you turn the tuner on,or when you start to play, and other settings also ..You can tune any number of strings and also set them up in increments to plus or minus 1 cent, or with an alternate button press , have the same plus or minus .1 of a cent !!...This is individual for EACH NOTE !!... There are presets for tempered tunings, and also for various instruments ....One cool feature is that you have an input, AND an output on the tuner so you can keep it inline with your setup to check your tuning at any time while hooked up to your amp!!..No extra output on your pedal steel needed !!...You can set it up for open tunings , or you can make presets for your pedal steel to your liking tuning each individual note to whatever offset you want in .1 cent , or 1 cent increments , plus or minus ... There are presets in there already for guitar , bass , violin, etc ... Roll your own , and your good to go ... The flashing ring of LED lights is VERY brite !!..A blind man could see this thing from 50 feet !!.. I'm not a pro at this thing as I have not had the time to delve deeper into it YET, but I will ...So far, so good !!...The tuning to my ear is VERY accurate...You can see EXACTLY how much cabinet drop you have, and being able to set up your own presets , especially with a 12 string like I play ,with the various adjustments for each note , makes this the tuner for me ....The company gives a 30 day money back garantee...If you are lookging to save money and have a great little tuner that does what you need it to do, this is your baby ...I haven't scratched the surface with this thing yet, and I already got my money's worth ....When you call or email to order , talk to Roger ( president of the company) and let him know that you are from the Pedal Steel Forum, and that you read my little review of his product ...His $129 price shipped is not going to last forever, however I think that he will extend it for us here on the forum !!....He is also very open to suggestions, and will be working on a mount for our pedal steels...We can make this good for him, as well as him making it good for us ...He's a very knowlegeable man, and very easy to talk to .... If you've been on the fence about a good tuner, and haven't taken the plunge, then now is the time ....You have 30 days to decide whether it will work for you or not ...What's to loose ? ...I don't work for this company, but I like to pass on some good info when I find it ...Good Luck to all....I'll try to get more info as I fi nd time to work more with this tuner...Jim [This message was edited by James Quackenbush on 28 December 2006 at 07:19 AM.] |

Very nice write-up Jim. Sounds pretty good so far. I'll be waiting for a more in-depth review on this tuner...Maybe your thoughts on durability, and the sound quality when it's in-line (does it change guitar tone)?
Again, thanks. |

Mike,
I can't speak for the durability as I haven't owned it that long...The tone is not hindered at all when going thru this tuner...I'm no electronic expert, nor is my hearing that keen, but I don't hear any difference at all in the tone .... You might want to talk to Roger about what was used in this unit .... I'm still really liking this tuner a lot !!...I've been very busy with a string problem on my steel , so I have not had enough time to dedicate to this tuner , but what time I have spent with it, has been rewarding ...No unpleasantries at all ...Positive results ...Sincerely, Jim |

How does this Turbo Tuner ModelST-122 differ from a Peterson StroboFlip at $200?? I had thought from reading on The Forum that the Peterson was the only thing to get.
Can the ST 122 tune plus or minus 10? ..and it will save my tuning?
Am I confused here?

Jim,
I don't think that there is a product made that is the "only" thing to get ....You have to look at the features of the various items for sale, and see what apeals to you .... As with any product , you may like something that I don't like ....You can download the manual on this tuner, and compare it to the Strobo Flip, and make a decision from there .... I did what was best for my application, and you have to do what's best for yours ....Good Luck ...Sincerely, Jim |

Some differences from the manuals:
Reference Pitch Range:
Stroboflip: 390Hz - 490Hz
ST-122: 430Hz - 450Hz
Cents Adjustment Range:
Both +/- 50 cents
Tuning Accuracy:
Stroboflip: 0.1 Cent
ST-122: 0.02 Cent (not a typo) |

I just got my new Turbo Tuner ST-122. I've never used a Peterson, so I can't give you a comparison. But, I love this new tuner. I've been using a Boss TU-12. There are 2 improvements that could be made. One is, you can't edit a tuning, you have to delete it and reenter. The second is, the faces on the LEDs and the display need to be protected. I think they could be easily damaged. It does come in a good cardboard box and very well cushioned. I will be keeping it in the cardboard box until I can find a suitable plastic box. For the price I think it is a great buy!!! |

Kevin,
Thanks for the info, but I'm at a loss when you say that the LED's need to be protected...The LED's have slightly recessed plastic see thru cover that goes over top of them ... I'm not sure what you mean by needing protection....Do you mean like a rubber padding around the unit ?.....I'm not sure I follow you..Thanks, Jim |

Jim, I just feel that the plastic lense cover over the LEDs could be easily scratched or punctured. I wouldn't want to throw it into my gig bag unprotected. |

Kevin,
I transport my tuner in the box that it came in...It's well padded and works fine ...I do agree though, a nice plastic case with the same protection inside would be nice ...Jim |
