Check 'em out. |

We will be introducing a new speaker line after the January NAMM show and I believe that you will be pleased with the results.
By the way, Jensen is not the old Jensen that we are all familiar with. They are owned by an Italian company called SICA. fyi. |

The Fender Jazzmaster Ultralight has a 12" Jensen Neo speaker rated at 2 ohms in it. The amp is rated at 250 watts and the speaker seems to handle it fine. I've used mine for guitar and steel both with good results. The amp weighs about 8 lbs, and the speaker cab weighs around 16 lbs.
I also have a 4 ohm Eminence 15" Neo speaker(not sure what model) that sounds good and is really light. It is in a custom cabinet I built and weighs a little over 20 lbs. total. I used this along with an Acoustic Image amp at a Christmas show at a mall in Austin a couple of weeks ago and it worked really well.
I'm anxious to see what Peavey is coming out with, they always put out a great product.
Here's the Eminence cab.

At the Jensen link above, it says, “12 in., 100watts, 4/8/16 ohm.” Under Electrical Characteristics it says, “Nominal impedance 8 ohm.” And under Theile-Small Parameters it says, “Voice Coil DC Resistance 6.73 ohm.” Can anyone gather from that what the amp sees? |

The amp will see that as an 8 ohm speaker load. |

David,
They didn't list the characteristics for all three models. Just the 8 ohm version.
Darvin,
Are you sure that Eminence Neo is 4 ohm? I thought those were only availalbe in 8 ohm.
That's all their website shows.
I bet when Peavey starts selling their version
there will be alot of old BW's on the Buy & Sell.[This message was edited by Jay Ganz on 23 December 2006 at 07:06 AM.] |

Jay, there are no markings on the speaker, when I bought it, the seller said it was a special design 4 ohm. I checked the DC resistance, but I can't remember what the reading was. I'll check it again in a few days.

now i know for a fact that peavey has had a NEO light version speaker out for some time because i have two..they are 8Ohms, and i am sure someone makes them For peavey. They put them in all of their PR series of cabs. I can carry two 15" sub cabinets at a time, one in each hand. Now these are rated at 400 watts RMS, 800 watts peak. Two of these cranked just a little, will lay some serious bass hurt on ya. So i to am anxious to see what mike and boys have up their sleeves this time. |

I checked the DC resistance of the Eminence speaker I mentioned in an earlier post, and it checks 4.8 ohms. Would this make it an 8 ohm, or 4 ohm nominal impedance speaker? _________________ Darvin Willhoite

Hmmmm....usually an 8 ohm measures about 6.5 ohm DC resistance.
A 4 ohm impedance usually measures bit more than 3.
Yours is sort of in between. Is your meter accurate?
Have you measured other speakers with it lately? _________________ Straight Ahead 500 watt mini~power amp |

My meter is a digital readout Tenma brand, and I haven't noticed it being out of calibration. I haven't checked any other speakers in a while, but now you have my curiosity up. I'll check some others this weekend that have the impedance printed on them and see how they compare. I don't suppose the neodymium design would have anything to do with the resistance? _________________ Darvin Willhoite

No, mine read normal. The neodymium deals strictly the magnet structure. That wouldn't affect the resistance reading. |

Jay, I checked some other speakers with my meter today, the first was an 8 ohm Black Widow, and my meter read 8.2 ohms. Then I checked a 4 ohm BW, and it read 4.4 ohms, so my meter is probably off, it is a cheapie. But, nevertheless, I got about the same reading on the 4 ohm BW as I did the Eminence Neodymium, so it must be 4 ohms. I know it sounds great with my Acoustic Image amps, and has plenty of power. _________________ Darvin Willhoite
