Mike, according to your ears, whats the sound difference between the NV400 and the NV112? If I were to do a side-by-side test, what would be, in your opinion, the first thing, if anything, I would notice? I have 3 Peavey amps. (I'm sold on 'em! ) Two are NV400's. The ser. numbers are 09941713 and 09941742. What yr. model are these amps, and do they already have the mod? Thank you for your time.

Mitch, your amplifiers were shipped in 1998. If you are the original owner, there are no indications that your amplifiers were factory modified. However, if you purchased them used, there is no way to determine if they have been modified by a third party. The only way is to compare the circuit to the circuit board layout on our website. Let me know if I can assist you further.

If the light is blue instead of red when you turn it on, it has the Lemay mod installed.

However, if you wish for our factory technicians to install the Peavey mod kit, we can do that if you will send the chassis only to;
Peavey Service Center
Attn; Repair Department
412 Hwy. 80 East
Meridian, MS 39301

The Nashville 400 kit cost is $29.98 each. The part number is 90500048.

Feel free to contact me here at the factory by calling toll free at 1-877-732-8391, ext. 1180.

Mike here is something interesting; I have been using two Nashville 400 amps for a long time. I recently played a big Gospel Show and decided to use my old Peavey Nashville 500 on one side and a Nashville 400 on the other side. To me, the sound of the 500 was very much different than the 400. The 500 sounded just like the newer Peavey 1000 I have used on shows. I was shocked at how close my 500 sounded to the 1000. None of my amps have the mods. Have you noticed how much the 500 and 1000 sound alike? This is just the power part of the amps, because I use a ProFexII as a pre-amp,so the controls on the amps mean nothing. Power part of the 500 sounds to me like the 1000 and totally different than the 400. The 400 seems a little more mellow, where the 500 and 1000 have a sharper cutting sound. I like both sounds.

Thank you all for your help. Another question. In what way does a NV400 WITH the mod sound different than a NV 400 WITHOUT the mod? Thanks.

Keith, no I didn't realize that, but I've always thought that the 500 had its own sound. Maybe that is the reason.

My view of the sound of a modded N'Ville 400 versus a stock N'Ville 400 is that the lower frequencies are boosted, the mid-range is smoother and the highs are clearer/cleaner.

I own both a factory-modded N400 and an N112. The differences I hear are as follows: the N112 does not sound honky, whereas the N400 sounds a bit nasaly but has more versatility in it's tonal range. The N112 has a tighter bottom end whereas the N400 is a bit deeper but a little flabby. They are both excellent-sounding amps. I prefer the N112 more and typically gig with a pair of them, which provides a lot of power and punch, and keeps the terrific sound.
