I've had this one for over 25 years, or so. Still works great...had to replace the pot 20 years ago, though. 
Anybody still using one??
This one has the string actuator.

Hey Mike. Yup, I got me one of them there ZB volume pedals. My string is getting a little frayed around one end. It is real quiet compared to my other one.

I have the original one that came with my first ZB...
and it has a different mechanism, with a gear on the pot shaft and toothed lever actuating it, like a wah wah pedal, and not a string... I never saw one before with a string... my goodrich has a string, but I used the ZB pedal for nigh on 25 years before I got the GR.
I use it exclusively with the ZB now. the matched set and all... |

Yeh Dave, Brad Sarno said he had the rack and pinion version too...like the old DeArmonds.
Duncan...my string is getting worn too. I've used fly fishing line for replacement. It seems to last the longest...but I'm open to new ideas.
I love the low profile, also. I've tried using other pedals...ShoBuds, Goodrich 120s, and a few others, but always come back ot the ZB. It just has better travel and feel IMO.
Anybody else? |

| I have something that looks kind of similar that has "Beck Musical Instruments" on the front. The construction is similar but the string-assembly sticks out the side a bit in front of the jacks. Is it a close relative or something? I've wondered what it was...never seen one mentioned. Very quiet pot pedal. |

Hi, I've been using my ZB pedal for years of regular gig work. Personally I like the ratchett system as opposed to the "string" pedals I've tried. I set it so when the pedal is backed off, there still is a little volume. I've rarely had to change pots although recently I've installed the new Canadian pot. My pedal has one in and two outs. It's well built and robust

Sure, I wouldn't be without at least one ZB pedal... mine is like the other mentioned in this post, with the teeth, not the string. It's kinda clunky, IMHO... and I usually use a Sho-Bud floor model.
I also have a BMI volume pedal (same pedigree, right?) that is string actuated.

You might try using a length of cord from a venetian blind. That's what I replaced my cord with on my GR pedal and it works just fine.
