Has anyone ever modified the Matchbox 7A to operate on an AC adaptor, and if so would you share the operation with us? I get so darn tired of having to tighten the battery connectors on this excellent asset, sometimes I feel it doesn't warrant using.

Fred,
I really don't think it's worth the trouble. If you have an on/off switch on your unit, the battery lasts a looooooooong time. Besides, I hate to have another chord hanging off my guitar. |

Is there a way to install an on/off switch in my 6A? |

I've installed power on/off switches on several Goodrich products, including an old Matchbox and my MatchBro.
Sometimes it's hard to find a place to put the switch (use a minature toggle switch).
I connect mine in series with the existing power connections (the power "on" connection is a second contact on one of the jacks - usually the input jack) so that both the switch and the guitar cord must be plugged in for the unit to power on. That way if the power switch gets accidentally turned on in my pack-a-seat it still won't turn on and run down the batteries as the guitar cord is not plugged in. However, on stage with the guitar cord plugged in you can still switch it on/off with the power switch.
Any decent amp tech should be able to do that for you, and relatively cheap. |

Thanks, Jack. I think I could do that myself, sounds pretty simple. |

Michael,
I also installed a switch on my 6A. I put a micro switch from Radio Shack on the top corner. I think that is the same location that Goodrich installs theirs. |

Fred,
Go to Radio Shack.....
they have a mini 9v wall wart type adapter that goes to a 9v battery clip.
You may need to notch the case to slide wire thru but you may be able to squish it on the side of the case.

Erv, I agree about the "cord" hanging off the guitar, but it seems like of late I lose battery connections and the unit just goes silent. Especially true if there is some vibration on the band stand. I've tightened the battery connections several times and it remedies that problem every time. I've replaced the battery connections on the unit 2 times since new. Just thot a permanent fix could be made that would eliminate the silence. Thanks for the posts folks.

Fred, I've tried the walwart with the little goodies that attach to the battery connectors, but then I had the same problem of them loosening. Maybe you could solder them on. Hope you're enjoying your retirement.

Yeh Howard, you're right. I've tried those with an adapter and I have the same problem I have now with batteries. I'm working on a simple solution and if it works I'll post it here. The retirement is hectic. Too much to do and too short a time. LOL

I have two 4A units. I installed a mini 3pole-single throw on the bottom that turns off the battery and allows the input signal to still go through. I do this so I can dial in as good a tone as possible, then turn on the unit and refine the clarity, etc. On the top, I installed a mini single pole-single throw that routes the input to a 1/4" jack on the side between the batteries so I have a bypass to my rack tuner. Works great, don't have to unplug cords all the time! [This message was edited by Doug Jones on 05 November 2006 at 05:13 PM.] |
