I know this should probably go in buy/sell, but I don't really want to do either. Also, it's pretty non-pedal specific, so here it is!
I have a Dunlop 918 (5.5 oz. Professional Stainless Steel, 3/4" x 3-1/16") bar that I don't use, because I really don't care for that extra 5/16" length.
I'm wondering if there's anyone here who has a Dunlop 919 (4.5 oz. Professional, 3/4" x 2-3/4") bar, or maybe a Broz-O-Phonic, who would like to trade? Both the 918 and 919 are the same diameter -- the 918 is just 5/16" longer. I don't really care for that longer bar, but I know some do. I had two of the 918's (bought them before I knew what I really liked). I traded a gentleman here for for a 919 a while back, and discovered I really prefer that size. Now, I still have one more, and if there's anyone who'd like to trade their 919 or the similar sized Broz-O-Phonic, please send me an email!
Also, while we're on the subject of bars, how do folks here like the Black Phoenix bar? I have a Red Rajah, but it started chipping, and I can't really use is anymore. Liked it before that, though!
Thanks all. Love this place!

Gary -- YOU ROCK, BRADDAH! Thank you! That's very kind of you. Please let me know what you need for shipping costs, if needed, and I'll happily send along.
By the way, the T-8 is sounding great. Decided to not just use if for recording, and did another Hawaiian job last night. I have another tomorrow (both private), and I always get a lot of great comments ("Wow... that's really beautiful -- is that some kind of keyboard or something?")
Oh well... we need to keep edu-ma-cating the public, I guess.
My address is:

Thanks again!

The Dunlop 919 Jerry Byrd bar is also my favorite. I've tried longer, fatter, and heavier bars, but I always come back to the 919...it's "just right", IMHO. I haven't tried many of the fancier bars (Sp2, etc), but I did try a Red Rajah. It was okay, but it seemed to suck a little sustain out of the strings. So, I decided since my Dunlop 919 ain't broke, there's no use in fixin' it.
The only complaint I have is that there doesn't seem to be a consistency in the size of the 919s. I don't know if different folks are manufacturing them for Dunlop over the years, or if maybe they use different equipment now and then, but I've noticed a slight variation in deminsions between "identical" 919 bars (they were bought a couple of years apart from each other). |

Todd,I am in the boat opposite you. I have a shorter Dunlop bar,but I would like a longer one if you would like another. This is the only bar I've ever owned. Jerry Byrd used this bar several times when I took lessons from him back in the early 90's.His magic might have rubbed off on it. e-mail me to trade. thanks Tom |

Todd--I was using a Red Rajah for a while and really liked it: real easy to maintain a grip and very fast over the higher strings, though it had a tendency to bind or hang up a bit over the lower wound strings. But it started chipping from the day I got it. I replaced it with the Black Phoenix last week, and so far no problems.
Not quite as sticky a grip, but still plenty fast, a lot less binding, and no powder on the fretboard! I like it. -Steve- |

Hi guys -- thank you all for the great advice and replies!
Tom -- please see your email!
Stephan -- thanks for that info. I contacted Chuck, and I'm going to send him my chipped Red Rajah, plus some cash for upgrade and shipping, and trade up to a Black Phoenix bar. Woo hoo! It sounds like I may like it better.
Gary -- Well, I don't know about becoming famus , but I will send you off a copy of my swing band's (Wholly Cats!!!) eponymous CD we did last year. You can hear clips of it at www.whollycatsband.com There's no steel on it, but lots of swingin' tunes, and even a short gypsy jazz number at the end. Please let me know your address again, and I'll send it off tomorrow.
Thanks again to all!

THANK YOU -- THANK YOU -- THANK YOU!!!
I just want to thank Gary Boyett and Tom Snook for the nice bars this week. Gary for the wonderful Broz-O-Phonic bar he sent me. Man, this is a nice bar. Thanks you so much Gary.
And also, thanks to Tom Snook for the JB bar I traded him for a 918. I definitely like this JB bar more than the 3-1/4" 918. It fits my hand just right. And I hope you're right Tom in that, since JB his-own-self played with this bar, hopefully some of that magic will rub off for me! Thanks again, braddah.
Now, I'm just waiting for my Black Phoenix bar in replacement for my Red Rajah to arrive, and I'll be all set!
This a great community of fine folks here.
