I believe "By Request" is still available at Scotty's Music, St. Louis. b0b might possibly still have it. |

Amazon.com has several JB CDs. There are no bad choices here. I have several of Jerry's CDs - "By Request" is awesome, I love "Byrd of Paradise" . .
Call me retro, but my favorite Jerry Byrd listen is vinyl - HI-FI GUITAR (the LP) with Hank Garland and Grady Martin on electric guitars, Ray Edenton and Harold Bradley on rhythm guitars and Bob Moore on bass. You can usually find it on eBay . . .

I like all of Jerry's stuff...but my favorites off the top of my head:
"By Request"
"Steel Guitar Hawaiian Style" (Lehua Records)
"Master of Touch and Tone" (SGHOF plaque on front cover)
"Polynesian Suite" (This is a unique album...for those that haven't heard it, the music is kind of like a South Pacific style Broadway musical).
All of these should be available on CD now. |

If ya'll out there don't have ... A017 thru A021 ... your missin' out ... bigtime.
Those are from JB's private "stash" ... that he and Mr. Bradshaw put together ...

Rick. I listened to "Hi fi guitar" today on vinyl. Hank Garland plays some great solos doesn't he! I think listening to this record today is what inspired me to find some Byrd CDs. I have "Byrd of Paradise". Someone explain to me why it is always so inexpensive compared to the others?? I don't know too much about the recording, but it almost sounds like a Nashville RCA Bill Porter engineered recording. I will have to do some investigating on where that was done.
This guy has the smoothest touch on the steel guitar that I have ever heard. His phrasing and his technique is not human. |

Bill, if you want to hear MORE of Jerry Byrd's fabulous playing, you won't want to miss the old tunes that are being shared on the "unofficial" JerryByrdFanClub.com web site.
Jerry usually is "featured" on one of his own records PLUS, a most likely now deceased vocalist with whom Jerry recorded, way back in the olden days; names like Tommy Sosebee,
Pete Cassells, Patti Page, Guy Mitchell, Ernie Lee, Zeb Turner, Red Kirk, Red Foley, Montana Slim, Slim Whitman, Country All-Stars
and countless other. Some of these tunes you'll never want to forget.
Give it a listen............ |
