Any Revelation pre-amp feedback?

Hands down the best preamp I`ve ever owned. Loaded with adjustability, it can be tweaked to most any tone you want. On a scale of 1 to 10, I rate the Revelation a 10.

DItto to what Hook said ..I've run it direct to the desk, through my rack rig, and into the back of a NV1000 and it is hands down the best sound I have ever been able to get in 28 years of playing steel, no matter what combination you might chose to use it.

It will be the best (and last) money you could spend on a Preamp !

And Brad took the time to build me a 230V version.

I spent some time the other day with Dan Galysh at the LeeAnn Womack show. He was playing his Carter though the one and into the power amp in's on a pair of Nashville 112's, and it sounded flat out killer, as did his playing

This is the best clean steel preamp I have ever heard, bar none. You'd love it, Larry.

I totally recommend it. So why haven't I bought one? Because I'm currently in love with my THD amps, where most of the sound is in driving the power amp stage (I'm not so into the totally clean sound).

That said, if I were putting together a rack for live or studio use, this would be the first piece of equipment I would buy.

Diddo on everything said previously. I had soundmen at a couple of big music fests in Wisconsin this summer tell me me my steel tone was awesome and that they ran the eq on the board staight up, didn't have to tweak it at all. Owe it ALL to the Revelation. My direct sound now sounds better than any tone I have gotten previously,"period".

I agree with all this positive feedback. And with my Rains with the 10-1 pickup, I cant beat it with anything I'v had. When you try a Rains you will see what i'm talking about. Its not for sale either!!!!!!

I recorded 16 songs with for the new album
with one or the other guitar going through it,
and the other into the SGBB.

The Revelation is in the studio rack,
I used it for guitar or the synth output
of the guitar synth if no guitar sound
was being used.

And the SGBB ALWAYS goes out for amp gigs with the lead player.

The Revelation can dial in a killer sound.
As much control as I have found in an instrument preamp.

I did a dog and pony show in the studio last night,
and it's retro look atracted a lot of attention,
BUT the description of what it did
left several informed heads shaking positively.

I have been trying to decide between a revelation and either a vibrosonic 135 watt in a seperate head ar a super twin in a head.Iam after the old fender tube sound.Can you get the classic fender tube sound out of one using a mosvalve 500 and a seperate speaker cab? Does anyone have any sound clips they would like to share?

I have 5 different preamps. Alembic F-2B, Mesa Boogie Studio Pre, TC-Electronic 1140, Pod-XT, and the Revelation. The Revelation is the only one I've even turned on in the last 6 to 8 months. When you look at all the features it has, like the Black Box circuitry, a true effects loop with a mix control, mono in stereo out, 1/4" as well as XLR outputs, selectable mid-range frequency that can be cut or boosted, tuner out, and a cool blue light.

Add to that the great customer service from Brad, none of the others quite match up.

Here is an example that was recorded direct. This way there is no variation from microphones, speakers, etc.

VERY nice, Randy!!! I would love to hear it through some speakers instead of a direct signal. How would you compare the Revelation to your old Alembic F-2B?

Thanks Tim. The Alembic F-2B is my second choice but the Revelation just has so many other features the Alembic doesn't. EQ wise, the basic tone controls seem to be almost identical. Both being designed like an old "Black Face" Fender tone circuit. But being able to move that mid-range frequency control really adds a whole different aspect.

I may for reference sake record that piece again with the same settings and plug into the power amp section of a Nashville 112. But then the mic, mic placement, and mic pre will play a big part of the sound.

Randy, why not just send it out from your recorder to the amp?

And then you are free to move the mic till you are most happy,
and or combine the sounds for a new one.

Lovely playing, great sound dry like that to.
I like the bell like ring to it.

David I think these are the ones I used for that. I have many different settings I've been keeping track of for the new project.
Gain:4 Treble:4.5 Mid:5 Color:6 Bass:5 Master:5
Vari-Z: 1:00 o'clock Bright switch in the "Dark" position

My guitar has Lawrence 710 pickups.

Here's one for the purists. I'm working on a project that has a B3 into a Harmonizer into the Leslie. The B3 is actually an A-100 that was modified by Keyboard Products back around 1980, as is the Leslie 122, which has the 300 watt ss amp.

The output of the organ goes into the Revelation Pre, from there to the H8000, to a mixer where it gets mixed to mono and from there to the pedal that feeds the Leslie.

James, it's going to be a while before this is done and it will probably be "unfriendly", by Forum standards. Solid state Leslie, is nothing sacred.....can't argue with that.

At the time, 1980-ish, the tube amp fervor of today, wasn't happening and to get a loud amp into the Leslie space, meant solid state. I was playing in a 13-piece reggae band with a full horn section, percussion, guitars, bass and 3 back-up singers grinding away in spandex. Tough gig.

Hey guys, Try running your Mids wide open with your color off and then add the color after you set the rest and see what ya think. Mine is killer sounding. BUTT i do have a rains hooked to it. LOL.

Gary. I heard a few guys this past weekend talking about a cool setting like what you mentioned, but not so extreme. The color was backed down to around 4, and the mids up around 7 or so. Bass on 6. Treble in the 3-4 range.

The color down, mids up idea is new and interesting. I just messed with it and I like it too.
