Topic: NV-112 "pedal loop" vs. Hilton-style pedal? |

Hey all...
I've recently acquired a Nashville 112 which I'm liking a whole lot. I'm using a Goodrich L-120 through the "volume pedal" loop (pre-EQ, tri-cord, etc...).
I'm wondering about what happens, tone-wise, were I to switch to a Hilton (or other pot-less pedal)... do folks still go through the volume pedal loop or does the pot-less pedal negate the need to use that slightly modified signal?
Am I making sense? The reason I ask is I got to thinking about a five-channel snake for guitar, volume pedal loop, and effects loop... would make setup and all that a bit quicker/cleaner. I'm wondering if I ended up with a Hilton and didn't need the volume pedal loop I'd be better off skipping the snake and putting the money towards the Hilton.

| I've tried my Hilton through amp effects loops and found no benefit, as the pedal's output is buffered and can be boosted by the pedal's circuitry if wanted (the two things a loop would accomplish). In fact, the "double-dipping" through two impedance buffers changed the response and tone of the pedal in a negative way, IMO. |

Keith, last time I heard, does not recommend using the loop for his pedal. And, there is no need since the pedal has the active electronics to maintain the signal integrity (tone).
With a pot volume pedal, going direct from the guitar to the amp input and putting the volume pedal in the effects loop tends to provide a fixed impedence load to the guitar and minimize the tonal change that a volume pot pedal can cause. |

I have tried it both ways. My ears like the sound better when I connect guitar > volume pedal > FX unit > to amp input.

Jon: stop by the Eagle Street Grille on W. 7th and Kellogg this Thursday or any Wednesday starting in Oct. and you can hear my NV112 with Hilton. I'll never use another pot pedal again. I just go from Hilton straight into the amp.

Jon, I used the 3 cord hook-up on my Nashville 112 when I had a Goodrich L 120, but since I got a Hilton, I get great tone goin to Steel-VP then VP to amp. I'm really glad I got a Hilton.

Thanks y'all, that's kind of what I was expecting to hear.
I'm glad I checked so now I whon't go through the expense of getting a snake made... next I will ask about the NV112 effects loop, but that'll be in another post! |
