can anyone give me some info on an amp I purchased in St. Louis, it looks like a FET 500, but the tag in the back says model SE. was this the first model of SE? I also have an SE 200 and this is a totaly different beast.

What size speaker is in the Fet 500? Evans
made a few with 12" speakers.

I have a 1993 Evans FET 500 LV SE that I bought new. In the case of my Evans, the SE refers to the Cabinet being a Small Enclosure. The LV refers to the Amplifier being of Low Voltage.
Of course LE refers to Large Enclosure, if you happen to have one of those. They are good amps and very dependable.

Hi Steve, I recently did a trade with an amp I had for an Evans FET 500 LV ....it's the smaller cabinet. It's an old amp, about 1985 with the Evans eclipse speaker. The tone is awesome, and now I'm not using my other "well known" amp anymore.

Hi Steve,
Congratulations on picking up a great amp. I've had my SE for 10+ years and it really kicks tail. Email me if you have questions about settings or getting dialed in with it.

Hey Matt, tried to e-mail but it came back. sounds like your amp is about the same vintage as the one I just got. do you know is this the first amp that Evans made after the FET 500 model? what settings have you found to work best, I play an Emmons P.P. The fellow that I bought these from got both the combo amp and the 15" extention cabinet at the St.Louis show about 10 years ago, didn't like them so stuck them in the basement, I couldn't resist, they are covered in purple tolex!

Hey Steve,

Sorry about the email thing. I think it's fixed now.....

I play my Zum and/or my 75 Emmons PP thru the Evans with these settings (adjusted & tweaked depending on venue): Your mileage may vary but start here:
Master Volume at 5
Bass at 5
Body at 5
Treble at 1
Volume 3 to 6 depending on how loud the guitar player is playing
Depth switch up
Expand switch down

If you read thru other posts here on the Forum you'll find many comments on the treble being pretty lethal above "2" on these amps. Brad Sarno had a great recommendation for a mod - but for me leaving it right at "1" on the dial works just fine.

These settings give a rich, warm, sweet but punchy sound with feathery, detailed highs..... I've loved this amp since the day I bought it.
