Anyone use the Boss DD-20 giga delay? It's supposed to have tape simulation echo as well as a 23 second loop feature. Does it have a true bypass or does the unit color the sound when not in use? |

I've got one, and I really like it---The analog delays sound sweet, with the proper loss of top end, and the other stuff is what you'd expect from a Boss pedal. There's some "trick" sounds in there, that I doubt in anybody would ever use, and the "sound-on-sound" feature is a little weak, but a good, versatile delay. Clean when bypassed, too!
Edited to add---DO NOT expect this thing to run on batteries![This message was edited by Stephen Gambrell on 28 July 2006 at 05:37 AM.] |

Hi Stephen:
Thanks for the feedback on the DD-20. It looks interesting and can store up to 5 delay settings.
Also, is this pedal 9 volt that can be powered by a standard 9 volt wall wart?[This message was edited by Len Amaral on 28 July 2006 at 07:19 AM.] |

I have one. a great pedal. very versitle.
it does not color my sound.
it eats batteries so unplug the input jack when idling, taking a brk. I got tired of that so I use a wall wart. make sure the neg/pos are right. if I remember there is a diagram or notation to guide you.
Ive done a few loops. havent mastered that yet.
but the echo tape delay is very analog sounding. the other samples are great as you have knobs to customize them to your needs and you can save them.
my giga delay settings change every few weeks.
buy it now item for sure.
I use this thing in all my set ups.
I play lap steel and strat and tele.
it also worked on my pedal steel.I had it sustaining for a week.[This message was edited by Randy Reeves on 28 July 2006 at 10:48 AM.] |

Dare I ask if this will sound anything like the Maxon AD-9? I am close to ordering the Maxon Ad-9 analog delay and it looks like the DD-20 would be a lot more economical.

greg. the giga delay is a nice pedal. remember tho it is digital and only emulates analog.
the maxon is analog in my understanding...
or is it digital and emulates analog.
if so, then the giga delay gets you bang on the buck. |

I understand the whole analog versus digital delay thing and the original Ibanez AD-9 versus new Ibanez AD-9 and the Maxon with the old AD-9 bucket brigade components and upgraded lossless bypass. Over half the reviewers I've read, that own the DD-20, say it is very close in sound to a quality AD-9 in analog mode. I was just looking for some opinions on this from STEEL players and maybe those who do recording. I really want a good analog delay but the thought of shelling out $300 for a Maxon stomp box is nauseating!

I bought a DD-20 giga delay today. The tape patch is very nice. This unit also has a tone control so you can taylor the delay darker or brighter. I'll look at the manual tonight and see what this puppy is capable of.
Thanks for the input..... |

So far I like the DD-20 a lot. Here's a recording with the DD-20 in analog mode on two of the E9th parts: Red River Valley
