Two days ago, my Evans FET500 up and quit. Made some awful scratchy, thundering noises, and then went quiet [red "ON" light now off].
I immediately pulled out the fuse from the back side and saw it was blown. After replacing it, the amp still would not power up.
Can anyone give me the name[s] of the new owner/owners, and /or the contact person[s] at Evans? How has your luck run in dealing with Evans as far as repairs?
I know I'm not gonna waste time taking the Evans to some shops around here; as I did in the past with my Vegas400, only to wind up sending it back to Peavey, anyway. A hard lesson learned.
Thanks, all. I'd appreciate any latest info in contacting Evans that you can muster.

There's the info you need.
I've heard good things about dealing with the Buffingtons and one day I need to send them the chassis of my FET500 for maintenance but I have no personal experience with them. |

I've dealt with Scott Buffington a few times and had good results both times.

Thank you Jon & Fred,
I did a general Google search - Evans Amps - but didn't come up with the link you provided Jon.
But a 'contact' page is there, and that's what I was looking for. Thanks.
And Fred, thanks for the reply and Scot Buffington's name.
When I speak to a new person, gee, I'd like to call them by their name - not, "sir" or "mister" or "hey you".[This message was edited by CHIP FOSSA on 05 July 2006 at 01:58 PM.] [This message was edited by CHIP FOSSA on 05 July 2006 at 01:58 PM.] |

Chip,
I talked with Ed Buffington today and I too have had a similar problem with my FET 500. Its basically over heating and blowing the power transistors. There are 4 of them. I've replaced them but they go again sooner or later.
It needs a mod kit installed. You'll need to send the electronics part back to Ed and he'll fix you up. Its not that expensive either. $40 to $50. Ed's a nice guy too.
Evans phone number is 336-437-0703. |

Thanks Gary for your reply. I appreciate it.
The cost sounds real reasonable to me.
I emailed Scot, yesterday, and will wait for a reply. If I don't hear back in a while, I'll just give a call.
Thanks again.
