Hi folks,
I'm curious what you all think about the small Evans SE-100 parlor amp, and if anyone is using this amp for pedal steel. I have an Evans FET500LV that is a great amp: it's clean and loud enough for me with a big warm tone that has nice presence and punch. It’s heavy. I'd like to have a second amp that is lighter and smaller than the FET500. I believe that the big cabinet of the FET500 has a lot to do with it's sound, so I don't expect that the SE-100 would have the same tone as the bigger amp. How does the parlor amp sound? What are it’s limitations? I suppose it’s got less headroom than the bigger amps. One of the things that I love about the FET500 is its warm and tube-like tone.
Thank you,
Cliff

I don't have a SE-100 and have never heard one but you said something in your post that I've come to believe and thats about the size of the cabinet contributing to the tone of the amp.A friend of mine recently made a remark about cabinet size that cracked me up.....after switching to a Steel King he told me the tone was really great and full and that small cabinet amps all sounded like "transistor radios".But then again the sound of the SE-100 may be pleasing to your ear.Everyone has differnt opinions about what's good or bad.Only way to find out is to try one out. |

I also have an Evans AE100 which I bought from John Hughey. I use a parallel external cab with an Altec ER12L musical instrument speaker which also increases the amp output to 150W. This speaker is rated at 200W with freq. response 80-7Khz and mounted in a Marrs cabinet. I am completely satisfied with this amp's performance. It weighs 28 lbs and the ext speaker cab weighs 29 lbs.

Larry, did John leave any of his talent in yours? LOL. I haven't tried mine with an external speaker, I have several different speakers around, thanks for the suggestion.

I also have an AE-100 since 2003, I didn't buy from John Hughey.
I've very impressed with it. I just used it at an outdoor gig last night, with a 15" Extension cab.
It's a great "parlor amp" and rehersal amp on it's own. |
