Topic: Peavey Special 112 |

| Being a new member I quickly noticed all the chatter about the Peavey 112. With a music room full of Peavey amps I thought I would pull out my Special 112(160 w rms and one 12 Scorpion speaker)and give it a try with my Pro lll. After a little tinkering with the tone settings and disabled the bright and lead channel I was happy to find out I could leave my Session 500 or my Nashville 400 at home. It plays great on club gigs and going to try it outside this weekend. If you have one setting around it might be something to try. |

Our guitar player played through 2 of these some years ago and he realy liked them, and i think if he them today he would probably use them again. I have never played steel through one but he said they were great for guitar.

Mike,
I have just aquired a solo series, Special series 130 PV amp. On the back, it states 300watts w/a 12" jenson speaker. The cabnet is pretty well butchered but sounds ok. My plans are to refurbish the cabnet,and maybe a new speaker. which replacement speaker do you recomend for psg? It will be used for in home practice.

Bill, the "300 watt" rating is what the amplifier pulls from the wall socket and not what the amp produces.
However, if you are going to use this the Peavey Blue Marvel part number 70777234 speaker, which can be purchased through our factory parts department by calling toll free in North America at 1-877-732-8391, ext. 1386.
This is the same speaker that is used in our Nashville 112 amplifier.

All the "chatter" you are hearing about the Peavey 112 isn't the "Special 112" it's the "Nashville 112". A totally different amp. The specilal 112 is not a good steel amp, the "Nashville 112" is an incredible steel amp and used by the majority of steel players the world.
Don't confuse these two amps even though the names are similar. There is a lot of difference.

Bill,
I understand, my post was to let others know that there is a world of difference between Peavey's other amps with a "112" in their nominclature and the Peavey Nashville 112 steel amps.
More chatter here, the "Nashville 112" is probably the greatest steel amp for the money ever built by any company ever. Sure, there are better amps possibly, but you'd better get ready to pay much much more and get ready to lift a lot more also.
Bill, what are you doing with so many amps? You are as bad as I am!
Another thing that Peavey has that puts them ahead of most other company's is an employee named Mike Brown, This guy really cares about the customers, the amps, his job and thankfully, his dealers. We should all be thankful for Mr. Brown. He is ALWAYS there when we need him.

| If the Special is the version with the 'saturation' control I'd throw it off a cliff. I played guitar through one once and it sounded horrid. I can't imagine what it would sound like with steel. |

| What sounds "horrid" to some may sound great to others. I've heard the solid state Fender distortion and in my opinion, they sounded bad. Every guitarist has their personal taste in distortion................... |

Mike, I had a 1977 Peavey Classic hybrid that sounded great, and I had a friend that had a Peavey Pacer solid state amp of the same period that sounded good too. The Transtube solid state Peaveys sound very good, especially those equipped with the Sheffield speakers.
But the 'saturation' era solid state Peaveys with the Scorpion speakers just don't do anything for me. They don't have a rock 'n' roll tone. |
