This might be good for Mike Brown. I have an old Session 400 and N-ville 400 that James Wood repaired for me. He told me the Session was an '80 model with a 1501 in it. The N-ville 400 had a 1502-DT, which he said the DT stood for "deep throat", which is a deeper travel cone.
What exactly is the difference between a 1501 and 1502? What is the advantage/disadvantage to the DT?
These are both great sounding amps. I'm just curious.

Chris, the 1502 was really designed for bass applications. It has a Kevlar reinforced, straight-sided cone. The 1501 was made for guitar and steel. It has a curved qaper cone (like the JBL's), an aluminum dust-cap, and it's more efficient than the 1502 (more audio out for the same watts in).

So, the 1501 has more presence (better highs) and a little more output, while the 1502 is more rugged and has better lows. Either will do a good job in a steel amp, depending on what tone you're after. The "DT" ("deep throw") design allowed more cone excursion (for better articulation and lows).

I've used them both in my Session 400 and Nashville 400's and quite honestly, I couldn't tell any difference what so ever..
