As i remember, the XR-16 pickups use alnico 5 magnets. The 710 use a different substance for its magnets.

On the same guitar XR-16's tend to be a little grainier and fatter sounding and not quite as bright.

Different brands of guitar will produce different results as to which "sounds" better.
