Have any of you serious PODxt guys checked out these new software downloads. i.e. "Version 3.0" & their new "Bass Model Packs"?
Is there any reasons, if any, NOT to upgrade?
The Bass software might have something that could be configured more like a steel amp...I dunno?

I upgraded mine last Saturday. I haven't played with any of the addtions. Maybe I will later. There is also a new version of the Line 6 Edit program and you must have the POD XT updates for the new Edit program.
There is also an update for the "Monkey" program. |

Rick, just make sure you don't do what I did - the upgrade writes over all your old presets, blanking your user settings. Use the Edit program to back up your settings first, then copy them back after the upgrade. It's obvious really - but I just charged in there like an idiot.
I don't see any reason not to upgrade - it's free. The Boutique amp is particularly nice. The Bass pack you have to pay for so I don't know about that (it's twice as much as the other model packs too - although you do get several 15" speaker cabs which might be interesting). I did pay for the Collectors Classic set a while ago which gives you some good clean models useable for steel, I keep coming black to the original Blackface Lux model though (gain down/output up). You can try the packs for 30 days.

Hey Rick,
My opinion, absolutely no good reason whatsoever and there are interesting tonal options with the bass cabinet models as well as the bass amps.
I have used Line6Edit awhile and found it to be a powerful and easy way to edit and backup customized tones and transfer them from one Pod to another Pod.
I find the Pod screen hard to read at times but the online editor has everything easily accusable in one window.
Everyone with a Pod 2.0 or XT owes it to oneself to check out this program that is available to users of these unit and it is completely free.
I will post some setup on the Line6 Customtone site once I can stop tweaking.

Sorry you went through that.
When I upgraded, which was before the public release, I had a choice to write over my presets and I chose not to erase my presets.
Because it is so easily accessible with Line6edit, I always recommend backing up data, which I am sure you do as well.
It is such a pain to try and recreate a favorite patch after accidentally wiping it and I do not want that lesson again.

It wasn't too bad, I only lost my more recent tones and I think I've improved on them by starting from scratch. The more you experiment with a PODxt the closer you get to 'your sound' which is quite rewarding.
I don't think I read the instructions very carefully but I wasn't expecting the uprade to write blank user patches over my existing ones. I'm sure you get adequate warning. |

My POD XT programs are still available for download. I use mine mainly as an effects processor. I don't normally use the preamp or speaker models, although I have a couple of basic programs using them on my web site.

I just picked up a PODxt this weekend, mainly so I could use a tele and a steel through the same amp. I did the updates no problem, of course I had no presets to lose.
I actually downloaded all of Jacks settings and they are quite good. I've had the best luck running into the power amp in on the back of my Nashville 112.

Since I play through tube amps and 15" speakers, I don't use the amp and speaker models live. I just use the effects. But the Twin model and the 15" speaker model (that was downloaded by the previous owner) really make my POD XT enjoyable for headphone practicing. Before this, I had never been able to get good steel tone with headphones. It's not quite like the real thing, but it is way better than any other headphone sound I have ever heard. I guess that means it would be pretty good direct in for recording - but again, probably not quite like the real thing.

If anyone's interested I saw a Pod XT on ZZ Sounds.com for 139.00 I believe it was a re-boxed return it's new and has the new warranty but they can't sell the repacks for new. It might still be there I saw it on Tuesday. Good luck
