Iv'e seen Roland Peachey mentioned here on the Forum, and I recently found an old magazine picture of him with his triple neck instrument, flat bar and all. I can't post pictures here, but if anyone would like a copy I will be glad to attach it to an email.

You can put me first on that list Bruce.

Thanx!

Mitch, 'google' Felix Mendelssohn and His Hawaiian Serenaders, or Roland Peachy to find quite a bit of CD material by both, all of it is great. The Mendelssohn CDs are generally compilations of 78s from various stages of the troupe's career, and featuring a number of fine steelers, like Harry Brooker
(who died serving in WW2, but had a son named Gary...), Pulu Moe, etc.

George, I'm sure you'll recall Peachy's steel as being an English bred 'Abbott', with Rick PUs.

Jeff, see my post further down and prepare to be blown away. I wish it was this easy to get the JM stuff!

I recently learned that there is a Roland Peachey CD available, entitled "rhythm of the islands"

Import, from England I think.

Has anyone heard it?? I think i have only heard a track or two by him, on anthologies, but this is an entire CD devoted to him.

22 tracks inc. The World Is Waiting For Sunrise; Who's Sorry Now; Cherokee; Chez Moi; Indian Love Call; Brazil

Mike that is an AWESOME clip!

Thanks a bunch for posting it.

By the way, was there any more footage of him made that you know of?

I know there is a lot of great stuff out there...films of Joaquin Murphy and other steel greats. It would be great if someone could colloborate an effort to preserve this stuff onto DVD before it is lost forever.

Mike ... you just picked up my day ... bigtime !!!

A "flattie" man.

I was too scared to debut my "flattie" playin at the HSGA this year ...

But between this clip ... and the new "flattie" that came in the mail while I was im Joliet ...

A textured-grip one with rounded corners (doesn't get hung up in the strings) ...

I'm goin' "flattie" from here on in ...

I got 10 now ... not all "flatties" are created equal

Roland Peachey (piche) came to the UK from Canada in 1937, bringing with him a 7 string "Frypan" and Jack G. Abbot of London made him a 3 neck guitar.
Jack died in 1938, one can assume that the pick-ups were either copied from the Rickenbacker or maybe even bought from the Rick. company..
The three neck guitar in the clip is an ABBOTT .. fo' sure..

Basil, any more of that interesting info on other UK names from that era, like Harry Brooker, Ronnie Joynes, Ray Higgins, and (somewhat later) Vout Steinhaus? I have a piece of sheet music somewhere with Harry Pahene/Brookers picture on the front.
