Is there anyone using this gear for steel? What's out there, and what are the comments?

I have an old Carvin tube amp that sounds great with a steel. It has been modified for a 15" speaker and currently has an old spiderweb Black Widow 1501-4 in it. I refinished the oak cabinet and it looks great. Also, its not quite as heavy as a twin reverb.

Here's a link to a past discussion of the Carvin SX amp. It does sound pretty good to me.

I recently played a Carvin vintage tube series Nomad with a telecaster and found it to be one of the best sounding amps for the money... I am considering one for a lightweight smaller gig amp.

I tried one of the SX300 rack preamp's and for my Telecaster it sounded great but there wasn't enough low end for the steel.

My wife has a Carvin Pro Bass 200 bass amp and it's great for the bass and would even do in an emergency for steel.

I play a Carvin 3 s/c p/u TL-60 Tele style through a Carvin Nomad Tweed amp. It is 50 watt all tube(EL-84s). I have never played a Fender guitar that I would trade my Carvin for. I get lots of compliments on how good the amp sounds. They are the best kept secret in the guitar/amp world.

Darvin, I don't know if I have asked you this before. Since you live in Leander, do you know the name of the fellow in Andice that has the great collection of Ricks to include orig frypans. He showed them to me yrs ago but would not let me take pics. I had one hell of a time trying to contact him in Andice. All the folks I talked to acted like I was a "revenuer". I finally locatd him by going door to door. At my age now I don't care to repeat that. CC

Thank you, all. Much good info here (and on the cited thread)to digest.

PS, Darvin. Great looking one! I would think it should sound as it looks.
