Fender Steel King (effects loop problems)

I'm in the process of trying to patch a Lecicon MX200 (dual reverb/delay, etc) through the effects loop, because it needs a line level input. The effects loop doesn't seem to work at all! Is there anyone else with one of these amps currently using the effects loop successfully? Also, I tried using the footswitch, but it only seems to control the tuner mute and nothing else.

Can anyone help?

I regularly have to do my "dummy check" because I have a tendency to rush setting my gear up. On several occassions I have reversed the send/return inserts on the Steel King and have even plugged into the foot switch input. Any of these situations will cause the efx unit not to function (if you acidentally plug into the foot switch, the amp probably will go into "mute" mode).

I'd suggest going thru the process of making sure that the "send" from the SK is going into the "return" of your efx unit and the "return" of the SK is going into the "send" of the efx unit. If you're attenuating your input/output levels on your efx unit and still get no effects, you might have a problem (assuming your Lexicon unit is functioning properly).

Thanks, but I've checked my patch cords several times, with and without the footswitch to no avail. I've even tried hooking up my ProFexII. I called a friend on mine with a FSK in Washington, and his works just fine, with or without the footswitch. I think the amp must be defective at this point.

Lynn - I use an MPX-100 with a FSK and have tried using it in the f/x loop and also between the volume pedal and amp. Both work equally well, as far as I can tell. The Lex has an output control that you can turn back if it seems to overdrive the input of the FSK.

Is the amp working ok with nothing plugged into the f/x loop? One time, when I was in a hurry, I accidently pushed the tuner mute button on the front of the amp. After cussing at the amp for a while I realized I was the dummy that was malfunctioning.

Just another thought, what about the input and output controls on the Lex? Any chance you accidently turned one of them all of the way down?

The amp seems to work just fine by itself, aside from the effects loop not working. But not with the footswitch plugged in. Using the footswitch, the lights go on and off but nothing happens with the reverb or the effects loop. Only the tuner mute.

I tried patching the Lexicon MX200 between the VP and the amp but there was a lot of noise, because there wasn't enough gain. I emailed Lexicon and was told the MX200 needs a line level strength input. He was right. Sure enough, it works just fine and is quiet, using my Peavey NV400's loop.

BTW, The MX200 only has an input gain control knob.

I emaied Fender a couple of days ago for help and am still waiting to hear from them. I used the only email address I could find on their web site, so it may have fallen through a crack. Seems like I've seen a guy by the name of Sam Marshall posting on this Forum. Isn't he a Fender Rep? Does anyone know how to get hold of him?

He knows all there is to know bout FSK and he is a really nice helpfull guy, he may well know what the problem is.
I use a delay in my effects loop no trouble at all.....I have never used the footswitch its still taped up inside the amp.

Lynn - I didn't realize they had removed the output control. I use mine as a master volume control. If the band starts getting louder, I can reach down and turn up, without having to go back and adjust the amp. As far as the input is concerned, I use a Hilton Digital Sustain unit between the guitar and the volume pedal. Perhaps that boosts the signal enough for the MPX-100.
