In my quest for the perfect amp, the Bruno Cowtipper 45 has been highly recommended by an amp dealer here in the city who is a friend of a friend.
Anyone have any experience with these amps? |

I spent many many hours doing weekly band practices at the 30th St. rehearsal studio, Ultrasound, a few years ago. I'm not clear on the connection but Tony Bruno is sort of 'in house' there. Our guitarist had permanent dibs on an Underground 30 which is a pretty different amp than your Cowtipper (class A 4 x EL84 as opposed to AB 2 x 6L6.) Absolutely great sounding amp. In this case, our guy liked to drive the amp hard with overdrive in front. Brilliant raunchy rig. Your Cowtipper 45 would, I expect, be great. Those 45 watts of 6L6 blackface sound should sound real fine and have plenty of power. Another amp in a similar price range is the Tone King. I got a used one this past summer and it's another great amp that takes the Fender theme and redesigns and upgrades the components. Before someone beats me to it, let me say that you can also get a Fender silverface amp and have it overhauled and tweaked to perfection for well less than half the price of one of these booteeky amps. But sometimes you gotta treat yourself nice.
due to the subjective nature of all this, you really ought to audition the amp with your own ears rather than trust word of mouth.[This message was edited by Jon Light on 17 January 2006 at 12:20 PM.] |

What city are you in?
For you Los Angeles people, a couple of weeks ago I personally spotted two Bruno amps on Sunset. They were in a little shop about a block east of GC. One was a head, and I believe that the other was a Cowtipper combo. I did not try either one.
They were $3000 each. It was all I could do to keep myself from taking both of them home with me.

I'm actually going to check it out at 30th street so I'll find out first hand. |

Bill,
The Bruno amps are just amazing. One thing you could do while you are down there is get a room at Ultrasound (across the street from 30th st Guitars )and set up 10 or so hand made fantastic amps and blast away for an hour.
One time I was there I used the Bruno version of a twin. It was so much better than everything it got me all upset.

I've never played one but I've always thought it would be a great stage name!
Ladies and gentlemen, on steel guitar, Mr. Bruno Cowtipper! |

Bill ,
You will not be disapointed at all....Tony builds GREAT amps ....All of them sound great ....He did not make a bad sounding amp....If you end up going to Ultrasound, see a guy Ken Volpe , and tell him I said hi, and I'm sure he'll take care of you...Jim |

At one point Bruno made a 90 watt version of the Cowtipper. That would make a great pedal steel amp. I think you could get it with three knob reverb. |
