I need to buy a new DVD player, and I am wondering if there is any musical reason to get one that records. I keep hearing that "the CD is dead" but there are a lot of CD burners for sale for music - is music recording heading in the direction of DVD's? Do real people in real studios do this? Just to confuse things, there appears to be DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD-RW, and DVD+RW formats.

If you are talking about a DVD player/burner for your computer I would go ahead and get a combination CD/DVD burner and player. You then have the capabilities to do it all on one burner. I recently installed a combination DVD/CD burner and player in my Dell Computer and it can do it all and is easy to use.
