I'm reading about the Evans Amps and am wondering about 'JBL'? They say things like 'its got a JBL in it' but never say what that it. What is it? Thanks.

It's a brand of speaker. A very good speaker.

I have a pair of JBLs in my Fender Twin Reverb. I ordered it that way from Fender. Of course, that was close to 40 years ago.

I've used JBL's exclusively up until I bought my Nasville 400 with a Black Widow. I Put a JBL in it but ended up putting the Widow back in. My opinion now is the Widows are as good or better than the JBL's.

All your comments are interesting. Sometimes I wish I could just listen to all the various kinds of Amps for one whole day. You really have to rely on word-of-mouth with some of these things, huh? By the way, don't they have green hats around here, I just don't look so good in red!

I prefer Weber Californias over either.
There is the "JBL's are the greatest" camp, and the "JBL's are harsh and icepicky" camp. I'll fall into the second group. Don't like them. They're clean for sure, but the Weber's beat them hands-down for richness of tone IMO. Not to mention 1/3 or so of the price. |

I have heard great things about the Weber speakers. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to hear them or try them out, but would be very interested. But, I am also very happy with my Widows.

Regardless of what anybody thinks of their newer "consumer" products, I wouldn't call any of the pro speakers from JBL "junk" - while I personally prefer the D130F and K130, Harley James simply sounded as good as it gets through the old Randall with a "new" E130 in it the other night and I'm sure there are plenty of qualified witnesses to back me up.
If JBL can't deliver the sound you want that's your preference - and we are all (hopefully) still allowed to make our own choices - but if you want the cleanest, flattest possible sound at the highest possible SPL per amplifier watt only TAD can meet or exceed the performance of JBL's D, K or E series speakers, whether 10", 12" or 15" - that's not my opinion, it's just scientifically documented reality.

| I'm 65 and been playing most of my life and IMHO anyone who referds to Jbl speakers as junk has a lot to learn about loudspeakers. I currently own JBL, EVM and Altec, and think that Altec has the smoothest highs, but JBL holds it's own against anybody's speakers. |

| Yes, the Altecs have silky highs, not piercing! I've recently started using the 418Bs and love them. I've sworn by JBLs for years, and still think they're great but I'm enjoying the change to Altecs. Just something a little different. They have less midrange to them. Actually I was refering to their mid and low line pa speakers and enclosures. Their pro speakers are just dandy. For steel they are great. might not be the thing for a bluesier sound. To each their own. I own a few JBL drivers. Lighten up.
Does anyone know what BOSE stands for?

| I have a Nashville 1000 and three other Peavey amps so i definitely love Peaveys But i have found that Peavey has a way of voicing their amps that isn't complimentary to what we tend to think of as high grade speakers. I have tried EVMs, JBL's, Altecs, in all but the Nashville 1000 and after hearing the lack of improvement in the sound won't even bother with that. In any other amp the PRO speakers sound good but not in Peavey. At least to my ears. |

I've had my 1501-4 BW in my Webb for about 4 months now, and it's a superb sounding speaker. That's after using the JBL K-130 for 26 years. The JBL will be a dust gathering machine for the near future.
