Anyone have any experience with these as steel amps? I have a chance to get a 100 watt 70's model, and for the price and weight seems well-built with good volume for steel. Secondly, would a competent tech be able to work on these? Thanks- |

You probably saw my post in an old thread, but I had a couple of older Polytones. They sounded OK, but I had a problem with one of them and only found one tech in Texas that would work on it. I had to ship it to Dallas, and to find the problem and replace a couple of components, it cost around $250, and that was without shipping. That was more than what I paid for the amp. I sold it a few months ago before anything else happened to it.
The Peavey Nashville 112 sounded better, was lighter, and I know if something happens to it, I can get it repaired reasonably.

I bought one blown, put in two new output transistors (there are only two) and a bridge rectifier, then a Celestion 15". Can't remember if I liked the sound, but being a jazz amp it was clean for 100 watts, I think it was called a Mini Brute, very basic tone controls, what I did like was it was as small as you could make an amp and still house a 15" speaker, it had a rugged cover with a pocket in it, actually I wish I never sold it because it was light and with the new processors I bet you can get a good sound |

The Jazz guys like these amps but don't expect any customer service from the manufacturer.

Thanks for the responses. The reverb on this one is out of commish (along with the "octave" feature, so it appears to be an issue with the effects circuit). I believe I will pass rather than deal with getting it worked on. |

I had one with the same problem. Fortunatley I was able to return it, as Polytone's customer service is almost as bad as I have ever heard of in the music industry. There's worse; but not by much. |

I play my Guild jazz guitar through a Polytone Mini Brute II, and it seems to be working fine for me. I don't think it could handle a steel though. I hope I never have to send it back to Polytone if their customer service is as lousy as you guys say it is. I'll keep me fingers crossed.
