I am the proud owner of a Session 500, but for the life of me, I cannot seem to get the sound I want with it. The Bass & the Mids sound pretty good, but the Highs are really thin. I can't figure out how to remedy this without getting too Muddy. Maybe you other 500 owners can help. Thanks in advance. |

Joseph:
The one thing that bothered me about the session 500 was the high end. I installed the Lemay mod kit, and it made a world of difference. I love my 500, but it's heavy and the loder you get the heavier it gets. I've switched to The Nashville 112, and it's all the amp I'll ever need.

I used a Session 500 for about 12 years, both with a D-10 PP (Black) Emmons and with my Franklin D-10.
I set the Low at about +9, Mid at 800Hz and the cut on about -2 to -3, High and Presence about +.5 to +1.
Try that and see how it works. |

I have played through a 500 for about 20 years and had the same problem.... I would back off on the treble or presence and get a muffled sound on my high end.... all I wanted was clear fat sounding notes from bottom to top. But my high end (E string especially) was tinny or whiney sounding. I ordered the Mod Kit and had a local guy install it.. the kit comes with the schematic for anyone to put it in. This did clean up the sound. If you put in Session 500 and search the forum topics there are threads that give all the settings the pro's use but there is quite a difference there also... Anyway now I get the nice clear lows and I can back off the highs without getting that muffled sound. I am getting a new guitar shortley and it will have the Truetone pickup so I'm hoping the new technology will give me a good sound through the 500. Don't forget to use search to get all the scoop.... you have a great amp just need to find that tricky combo to open the sound your looking for...

The sound I was wanting out of the 500 eluded me also until I tried Jeff Newman's settings. Here they are for you a good starting point:
Pre 3.5. Low +11, Paramid -6, Shift 800, Hi -3, Prescense +4, Post 5, Rev 4 |

Joseph, you could try using your Session 500 and an Fender Steel King - in stereo. A Boss RV5 would give you noiseless stereo separation with no tone degeneration or crosstalk. The FSK will give you all the brightness you need and the Session 500 will give you the fatness.
