| I'm tryin to figure out how come I can't hear my guitar while I'm recording. I'm plugged into my laptop through the mic jack and can hear the midi tracks playin but no guitar. |

Go into Start>Programs>Accessories>Entertaintment and open the Volume Control. Look to see if your mic input is muted, there should be a little checkbox there. If it's checked, it's muted. Make sure it's unchecked and also you can control the monitor volume by the slide control. This panel also gives you control of your playback of wave (audio) volume and your midi (synth) volume.
In the Volume Control panel, clicking on (at the top left) Options>Properties>Recording will also give you selection of your input and control of input volume.

| I played with the volume control panel and figured out how to get a good signal to record and it records just fine I just can't hear my guitar track while I'm recording it. |

Andy,
What sound card are you using?
In my case I have Soundblaster and the
mike in jack is in the front panel. There is
a volume control which must of course be turned up.
It could be in the Recorder Settings also,,
re: Source. (Mike, CD, What you hear etc. )
I know the feeling. I have been there.  |

| Hi Roy, It's a sigma tel c-major audio sound card in my Dell 2200 Inspiron laptop. I'm assuming that it is full duplex capable as most new sound cards are and I can record just fine but I only hear my rythm tracks and not the recorded track while recording. Very frustrating. |

| Well I kinda cheated a little here and decided to try something different. I patched my guitar first to my amp so I could hear it then I came out of the preamp line out from the back of the amp to the computer. Now I can hear my guitar through my amp and also the computer is gettin a strong signal. Not the way it's supposed to be done, but "what the hey" it'll work for now till I can figure out a better way to do it. Thanks all for the tips. |
