I've been kicking the idea around about getting something along the lines of a ProfexII, or Lexicon MX200 and I don't really know enough about them. The ProfexII's and the Lexicon family seem to be the most popular so that is why I specified them and they run about the same in price.
For over 30 years I've kept things pretty simple and have sounded good through good equipment. But now I've got this wild hair to experiment with processers.
With the ProfexII, I assume the presets give a variety of tones and effects. From what I read the MX200 is for effects.
I would like to have something to experiment with tone and effects.
Would you guys out there give me a little guidence and educate me a little one this subject and how they hook up to your rig. BTW I play through an Evans LE-200.(Large enclosure)
Thanks for any and all advise. I know I'll get lots of information through this great forum. I always do.

Hi Larry,
It really depends on where you want to go with your new "sound". The lexicons are primarily reverb, chorus and phasing. These could be called soft effects. The profex contains those as well as some overdrive and distortion sounds.
The best overall box to mess with and get alot of this is the TubeFex.

Hey Mark, Thanks for your reply.
I'm not really looking for a new sound unless I just happen to hear it.
It seems a lot of players use processors and have a really good fat, clean sound. Tommy Dodd really comes to mind. He sounds good right of the bandstand.
Then there is Jim Loessberg. Steel, volume, and amp. KILLER tone.
I realize most tone is with the player themselves. But I would like to maybe try something different. I wish I could jump right in there and get Brad Sarno's new preamp but really not ready to spend quite that much money.
I wish I had started this wild idea 20-25 years ago so I would already have some knowledge about this stuff.
Is the Bassfex and ProfexII the same unit? I heard that it was.
Thanks for your response and I hope to hear from more players and their experiences.

I have been using a Roland GP100 combo preamp/processor for several years and highly recommend it. They appear on the used market fairly often for $200-$300. Several others on the forum also use one FWIW. |
